Building the medium size R004

To go with the recent goods shed, I have purchased the Medium size station building also in Random Ashlar stone & John Wiffen has kindly given me permission to post these two shots of a brick version.







This will be a slow building process as I have some trackwork to alter at Watchit where this will be going.

 I  have been resurfacing the walls & platform of a previous platform at old Barnstable see Post #138 on

That's going to be a beauty, Sol.  What's its footprint?

It was interesting to watch the reaction of the lads at the DCC club yesterday when you brought out your goods shed.  :shock:

Footprint as per Scalescenes site - that is total size for the 4 modules so overall 347mm/14" x 90mm/3.5" - I may leave Module C out.

Confused… you said you bought the station so why did you get permission to post the photos?.. you bought it so you could do what you like with them?

I presume the pictures belong to the manufacturer and would therefore need permission to reproduce here. When Sol has assembled the kit then of course he can photograph and reproduce as much as he likes.

It's a long way to travel for you, Ron.

Very effective Station there - I'm sure you'll do it justice.

After the Goods Shed I am looking forward to this.

I think we are so very fortunate to be modelling at the time when John is producing these fantastic kits.

Warren. the kit does not have big photos ( hard to separate one from a PDF ) & the website ones are small as, so I asked John for a couple & approval to post them - no problems with that. As Bob said, once I build it, then I can post as many of the station as I like then.

Yeah, I have started by printing out instructions, etc. Can't rush these things you know! ( Especially as I am doing 45 other model jobs at the same time).

I was beginning to think of having a whip round for the ink Ron, don't rush mate Rome wasn't built in a day, just two weeks earlier than your goods shed

I hear you slow down at Ron's age, rate this is going it must be true . Ok off topic back to the OAP

Finished printing Instructions & yellow ink just lasted. I thought I would start on printing the kit & do the windoes first being on a transparancy but no, they print out onto ordinary paper & get glued to a clear film A4 sheet - have to go & buy some now - bummer - so I have asked Mr Scalescenes why the change in process.

For the last three years where ever possible I have been using these cut out style white framed windows and the response has been very good. If cut out with a nice sharp scalpel blade they really work well.

As you'll see from the Medium station kit as you start construction, they are also much easier to position within the window apertures as all the windows on one wall print out on single section.

Looking at overall printing economy, the white cut out windows also use far less ink than the black ones and have the added benefit of being able to use any thin clear film that is available such as packaging windows or cheap acetate.

The print out film windows like those included in the Goods shed and Engine shed that feature large multi light windows still have their place as they were pretty grimy environments and you can get away with the black frames.

Thanks John, so I am busy printing  out & found a clear plastic sheet from some toybox to use as the "glass".
