An even larger version

I've looked through the Scalescenes section and can't see any photos of the Large Station Building so thought a few pictures might be of use to someone. This is an N Scale model and is actually an 'extended' version of the kit with additional bays fitted at both ends to produce an overall building length of 220mm (32.5 metres at 1:1). It was originally intended as a Terminus Station for the large layout I had planned to build in China but is probably surplus to requirements now. Building it was all good practice though.

Hi Trevor,

Interesting variation and now I know what the back looks like.

Is the clock tower a separate module to the main building?
I've built the medium station, but it doesn't seem quite right for use with the canopy.

Hi Allan,

Yes the clock tower is a separate module but there is an opening into it at 1st floor level of the main building that you would need to close off if you didn't have the tower there.

John Wiffen designed the Overall Arched Roof to go with this station building not with the medium one. There is also an additional free 'steps' module that raises the whole building up to platform level with a very grand set of steps at the front of the building.

Looks like I'll need to build the large station then to get something suitable.
My station is a through one,so I'll have to see how it fits on the side of the canopy rather than the end.

I'll download the station later and have a look at the construction of it,but I really need to finish laying my goods yard before I start any more buildings.

I've downloaded the station and can now see how it fits on the side of the canopy.
There are a lot of parts to make.;-)

Sorry Aaron, I made them myself in an MS Excel spreadsheet using black background with white text and cell borders.

You have made a very nice job of that building, Trevor.  What thickness of card are you required to use?

Hi Terry,

There is quite a bit of tolerance in the Scalescenes kits when it comes to card thicknesses. Personally, bearing in mind this is N Scale, I use a hard 1mm card for the main walls, 200 gsm thin card for things like roofs and 100 gsm textured paper for cover layers. The hard card I use is actually photo album card which I've found is quite a bit more rigid that normal card. It does blunt craft knife blades quite quickly though.

The station building outer walls were just made up in 2 layers but I've recently started using Brassmaster windows which necessitate using a third centre layer with over-sized cut-outs for the etched brass windows to sit in so that they don't cause the walls to bulge.

Thanks Trevor.  Although I'm currently modelling in 4mm scale, I might make one of the Scalescenes buildings in 2mm scale just for the fun of it.
