Go to Scalescenes.com for the latest kit, the shop backs to match the earlier 'fronts' kit. This really is at the top end of card modelling, John has told me that they can be built individually as stand-alone models, too, as well as mating with the fronts to make a whole 360 degree model.

Low Relief High Street Backs T005a
They feature built-in downpipes, fitted as black wraps around a projecting edge, as in the terraced house fronts and can be built 'old' or 'new'. There are 16 pages of texture papers to print out to build the whole model, but you don't have to print them all out at the same time. Incidentally, there is no need to print out the instruction sheets either, they are of the newer photographic type and with care this will build a superb model

I can imagine several lightly kit-bashed versions of the timber framed buildings with a couple of warehouses making a very impressive period dock front scene, too!

Something like this has been needed for a long time. :thumbs

Many of us want a high street but not all those who do, want to put it against a backscene.  I will certainly be using some of the buildings in "Maxmill Town".

Additionally, as you say Doug, they don't have to be high street backs - I can see parts of the old East End waterfronts in there (The "Prospect of Whitby" and  "Town of Ramsgate" in Wapping to name but a couple I was immediately reminded of)

Thanks John, and thanks Doug for posting it. :thumbs

Yes thanks Doug, I have now purchased that to match the fronts - one day, they will get built.

Me too, just waiting for the glue to dry and nip out to buy more tesco value glue sticks.

Well impressed with this kit, and the potential for modding is great.

Well done John, this has been worth the wait.

Thanks for posting Doug……I have been waiting for this

Shop fronts are fine but in all honesty how many times do you actually see them facing on to a railway line with a narrow street in front?

Looking at the backs of houses and subsequently factories, offices and shops is far more likely

This kit will undoubtedly appear on the window sill at Granby……..my incredibly badly made Bilteezi kits now have a limited shelf life!

I like your Bilteezi houses John ………..:sad:   Being an uncommon model nowadays, they give Granby a "unique" look - plus they're a very good representation of terraced houses.

Peter, Bilt-Eezi kits are still available.  They are owned and marketed by Freestone Model Accessories.  Gerry, the owner, attends many exhibitions here in South-East England and displays some made-up kits on his stand.  He usually removes the printed windows and substitutes glazed ones.  Freestone Model Accessories also sell the Scene-Setter glazing bars which you might remember from my previous John Ahearn lighthouse thread.

Thanks Terry.

I remember the Bilteezi kits from long ago - good to see they're still in production - even if the kits themselves are a little crude by today's standards.

His stock levels generally, look a little low ………………:roll:

Rest easy Peter…….these will stay

Its this lot that is for the chop…………eventually. A high street facing on to the railway

They were just put on here as a temporary solution………..but inevitably figure as a backdrop of every picture I take of the station……………..the new kits will be much better……both here and at the totally unbuilt other end.

Phew !!  That's at least some good news John but I do also like those low level shots with the high street in the background.  I well remember Dad's Army (and a cow I think….) lining that retaining wall when Matilda came to compete in the Olympics ………..:thumbs

It reminds me a bit of looking over the sea wall in Bridlington or Scarborough and seeing all the shops selling buckets and spades ……..or the amusement arcades (ugh !!)

Are there any seaside resorts in Lancashire ………………….?:roll::roll::mutley:cheers

Its supposed to be in Wales…..but it has developed a bit of drift

The scene you remember will stay its over the branch line although I am tempted to replace the Metcalfe High Street with the smaller Scalescene shops that you have done……….whew…………. got back on topic

Hi

I have been a little busy, and finally got round to building some tennements.

From left to right

Scalecene T005a facade 4 Warehouse - replaced tilled roof with corrugated paper from the works.
Scalescene T005 Street front facade 4 with an extension for the lower level, Scalescene Random Ashlar paper used
Carcase from Scalescene T005a with a scratch built facade, again covered with Scalescene Random Ashlar paper, windows and sills from T005a.
Scalescene T005a Facade 2

Rear upper wall of retaining wall is temporary - just there to hide the gaps.

This is not the final location / order of the buildings hence the roof and chimneys are not finished. Also got detailing to do

These kits were really easy to build - even I have managed it, and very versatile.

Thanks Peter

Whoops - Just re-checked my brick papers, it was the Ashlar not the Random Ashlar I used on building 3, matches the T005 Shop front facade 4, its the same paper I used to make the extension on building 2 instead of the normal shop front.

As you may have noticed, it wasn't until I was on the building 3 (the last one I built) that I remembered the curtains

As i'm having a go at the backs of tennements / warehouses, I have the coursed stone paper and will that a go. after all its only ink, card and paper.
