I'm not moving that lot!!

As part of my pending house move, I am having a good weed out of books that have sat on shelves unread for some time.  There are about 3 dozen or so that I would like to find new owners for.  Prices are, I believe, realistic and I am happy to investigate postage costs for whatever to wherever you are.

I will post them in batches with a brief description.  The first batch is mostly LMS, used when I used to model the Midland Railway in all its glory.

Midland Through The Peak - Brian Radford's pictorial description of the line between Manchester and Derby.  Hundreds of b&w photos with informed captions and accompanying texts.  ISBN 1 85241 001 9.  vgc - some fading to the spine of the dust jacket.  £5

Through Limestone Hills - Bill Hudson's 200+ page classic covering the LMS line from Ambergate to Chinley.  Photos, drawings, track plans and illustrations.  Excellent book.  ISBN 0 86093 217 6.  Excellent condition.  Bargain at £10

LMS Sheds in Camera - John Hooper covers dozens of sheds from all over the system - large and small.  Engines, buildings and structures, cranes and other shed "stuff" covered.  ISBN 0 86093 274 5.  Oxford Publishing Co so good quality.  Vgc though some fading to the dust jacket.  £5

A Pictorial Record of Midland Railway Architechture - does what it says on the tin.  Another OPC book in vgc by V Anderson and G K Fox.  Nearly 250 photos plus drawings, floor plans etc.  ISBN 0 86093 320 2.  £5

The London & North Western Railway - A Railway Heritage publication for Silver Link Publishing written by Edward Talbot.  Soft back in vgc produced to celebrate 150 years of the Premier Line.  127 pages of well captioned photos.  ISBN 1 85794 086 5.  £4

The North London Railway 1846-2001 - the epitome of decrepit, the NLR is well illustrated in this 100+ page work by Dennis Lovett.  Lots of photos and maps covering the birth of the line through to its future (as at 2001).  ISBN 1 903266 12 2.  Hardback in good condition.  £4

LMS Miscellany - Volume 3 by H N Twells.  OPC book ISBN 0 86093 383 0.  Good condition with some fading to spine of dust jacket.  265 photos covering as many topics all related by their subject - somewhere, something on the LMS.  Good for modelling detail!!  £3

Lost Lines series - London by Nigel Welbourn.  Ian Allen publication.  Softback in vgc.  128 pages of photos, maps, timetables and more.  Covers all areas and all thus all railway companies with a presence in the capital.  ISBN 0 7110 2623 8.  £3

Rails Through Lakeland pt 1 & pt 2- Another Heritage Publication for Silver Link.  2 softback books covering (1) The Line Described and (2) Traffic and Operation 1847-1972.  A real must for any LMS modeller portraying this area.  Excellent condition.  Written by Harold Bowtell.  ISBN 1 85794 066 0 & 1 85794 128 4.  Sold as a pair £8

LMS Branch Lines (England and Wales) - written by C J Gammell and published by OPC, this is a collection of dozens of photos, maps and sketches covering the history of dozens of LMS branch lines.  Each brief description is enough to get you reaching for the Gazette to investigate the modelling possibilities!!  Vgc.  ISBN0 86093 498 5.  £4

The Stratford-Upon-Avon and Midland Junction Railway - history, description and many photos of the SMJ -  "The Shakespeare Route" by Arthur Jordan.  Excellent starting point for any modeller.  Vgc although some fading to the just jacket.  SBN 86093 131 5.  £4

The Midland Railway (North of Leeds) - Peter Baughan covers nearly 500 pages with informed text, maps, photos and tables of the famous Leeds-Settle-Carlisle line and its branches.  Hardback in good condition although the spine of the dust jacket is slightly faded.  I bought it cheap as one of the photos on the photo pages is damaged.  Still a must-have for MR/LMS modellers in this area.  £6

Locomotives of the North Eastern Railway - written in typical O.S. Nock style with informed text, personal recollections, tables and technical details.  Softback includes dozens of photos of NER engines and their later LNER incarnations.  Vgc.  Ian Allen Publication.  £3

Furness Railway 150 + The Kendal & Windemere Railway + The Coniston Railway - Any modeller of the Lake District in the UK will be happy owners of this trio of softback books in very good condition.  Photos, maps, text and tables covering the history and operation of the three lines.  Sold as a trio  £6

The Subterranean Railway - How the London Underground was built and how it changed the city forever.  Christian Wolmar's fascinating book is in mint condition - I've never read it - and would make a great addition to your library or as a gift for someone interested in this subject (or who works in the city and uses the "tube" every day!!).  Hardback.  £5

Adding Realism to your Model Railway - Michael Andress's 1988 work may sound dated but the fundamentals are still valid and this book is packed with little ideas and methods.  Hardback in vgc.  Loads of photos - some in colour.  £3

Modelling The Steam Age Railway - Cyril Freezer is one of my heros - without him, few people in the UK would have got into modelling in the last 30-odd years of the last century.  This hardback in vgc covers all the fundamental basics and is great for someone starting out.  Loads of photos (some colour), drawings, sketches and those unique CJF trackplans.  I'm only selling this because I have 2 copies!  £4

How To Go Railway Modelling - Norman Simmons.  Another absolute classic.  This is the 4th revised edition.  Hardback in vgc.  Everything you need is here - scale/gauge information, layouts, photos, ideas & tables covering track, locos, rolling stock, couplings, wiring etc etc.  Great for anyone you know moving from train set to layout.  £4

Buildings For Model Railways - This little hardback by Maurice Bradley covers railway and non-railway buildings with sketches, drawings and construction ideas.  Its only 90 pages but is packed with useful stuff including a glossary of architectural terms.  Bargain £3

Train Drivers Manual - Colin Maggs is a prolific author and has produced this paperback book which, as far as I can tell, is basically a copy of the "Rules".  Do you want to know how to shunt safely, what Rule 55 says, or how to run your trains properly?  This book will tell you.  Vgc and a bargain £3

The Railways - Nation, Network and People.  Simon Bradley's wonderful 550 page account of the history of railways through a collection of stories covering not so much the dates and facts, more the impact on the people.  This is really a social history book but a brilliant read for you or someone you know.  Good condition paperback.  £4

The Midland in the 1930's - Alan Whitehead needs no introduction and this is as good a collection of photos, maps and sketches as you will find in any of his books.  Covering the title subject through dozens of photos with good captions.  My love for the MR started with this book!!  £4

The Moving Metropolis - The history of London's transport since 1800.  Does you love of trains drift into buses, trams, trolleys, horse buses?  Sheila Taylor does a great job of covering this complex subject with a 390 page full colour paperback.  A great bedtime read!!  £4

The Midland Railway - C Hamilton Ellis is another author who needs no introduction.  This is a straight up history of the MR in a 180 page paperback.  Essential basic reading for any MR/LMS fan.  Good condition £3

The Midland Railway, A New History - Roy Williams covers the same ground as above from a different angle.  As easy to read an H-E and, in fact, a great compliment.  Vgc  £3 or take both for £5

I'm sounding like James Opie already!!!

Williams's Midland Railway - Its Rise and Progress - First published in 1876, this book is really a comtemporary account of the MR from the time it existed, rather than the rose-tinted view we take now of pre-grouping railways.  No photos of course but plenty of illustrations and maps.  Written in that lovely flowered language of the day, this is a great read!!  Hardback in OK condition - much wear to the dust jacket but the book is good.  £5

Paul Atterbury's Railway Collection - Paul is a well known collector of photos and other information so to have a hardback book of 250 pages packed with it is brilliant!!  Covering favourite journeys (Cambrian Coast and Whitby), photos of locos and trains, sheds, works, railway staff - its all here.  Much interest for the train lover and modeller alike.  Good condition, loads of colour too.  £6

LMS - Colin Garratt's comments on the work of Rev A Mace.  Like all good clergy, Rev Mace took photos of trains and some of his work is shown here.  Nice little book.  Hardback in vgc  £3

LMS 150 - Patrick Whitehouse and David StJohn Thomas cover off every part of the LMS system over its first 150 years.  Typical Whitehouse book with good captions under good photos.  Vgc £6

Pre-Grouping in the West Midlands - another Whitehouse book.  Another great collection of photos covering the title subject  Hardback in vgc  £5

S W Johnson - MIdland Railway Locomotive Engineer Artist - Its difficult to disagree with the title here!  Hardback includes dozens of the great man's engines with their flowing lines and big domes.  Good condition.  £3

Victorian & Edwardian Railways from Old Photographs - Jeoffrey Spence has pulled together dozens of photos under this title.  From the 1840's onwards, his subject is well illustrated and well captioned.  Great read £3

British Railways Steam 1962-66 - Nearly 100 pages of pictures showing the latter end of the BR steam era.  Not all Pacifics and Railtours, smaller survivors are covered as well.  Vgc bargain £4

Model Railways - Dave Lowery is a well known modeller and this book brings his thoughts and ideas together.  From basics to kit-building, Dave covers it all in his own lyrical style.  Hardback in vgc  £4
