SETTING UP THE DIGITAL SYSTEM

Before you can run RR&Co live you must have a supported DCC system (Lenz, Digitrax etc) and an appropriate computor interface

Select [RAILROAD] on the main railroad menu and then select [Setup Digital Systems]

Select your system from the dropdown menu listing the major systems that RR&Co supports and press OK.

Make certain when selecting your system that you choose the correct interface. For example there are two listings for Lenz depending on whether you have a serial port or USB interface. Select the wrong one and you will get an "unable to connect" message.

If you have a USB interface ensure that the correct COM Port is selected. If in doubt use the Windows Device Manager to determine the correct COM port number.

TC has the ability to connect with multiple DCC systems for different applications…….following this section there is an excellent write up from Geoff describing how to do this.

You must however ensure that the selection only contains the system (or systems) to which you have a valid connection. Use the [REMOVE] button to eliminate any unwanted systems from your selection.

Go back to the main menu [RAILROAD] and select [Connect] and you should be in business:lol:. Check that you are by testing the Power On and Power Off Icons

The blue snowflake icon between the on off switches enables you to "freeze" schedules……we will discuss this useful tool in a later section.

Troubleshooting

If the system doesnt connect check the obvious……the DCC system is switched on, the interface is connected, you have selected the correct interface and the correct COM Port #.

In the case of the Lenz USB interface you must also ensure that the Lenz Server application is not on…..if it is RR&Co thinks the COM Port is being used by another application and you get an "Unable to connect" message

In the case of the Lenz USB interface you must also ensure that although connected it is not actually on…..if it is RR&Co thinks the COM Port is being used by another application and you get an "Unable to connect" message

Once connected RR&Co is very robust and stable. Crashes are rare and invariably a result of user error. I have crashed RR&Co a couple of times through my own carelessness. The key to restarting is to close everything down…….both the DCC System and the computor and then go through the [CONNECT] procedure described above. Its no good just trying to re-start TC without a complete close down.
