Events within a block

Hi to all. I am looking for some help. I have set up schedules with linked schedules etc and all is fine. One particular schedule is for intercity trains. This departs the northern siding and makes its way to Newark station in the scenic area. On arrival it slows and stops and then waits for 30 seconds before moving off for the rest of it's journey. What I want to happen is the the train stops, waits 25 seconds, then blows the whistle, before waiting a further 5 seconds and then moving off. Does anyone know if this is possible and if so how. Obviously if it is possible I could do other things I guess.

Hi Dave,

My NCE DCC system runs macro scripts just like this. Set macro active, run though the sequence, save it. Whatever actions you take recording will be replicated when the macro is run.

Definitely possible - and from memory there are a number of ways to do it. ( I am rusty as I haven.t programmed schedules for a few years.)
Am I correct in assuming the slow down and stop is at the end of the previous schedule?
As I recall you can use the schedule start to set up the actions and wait times you require.

This is the list of operations I used for a shunting operation. The delay operation is the one that will give you the wait you are looking for.

Which an NCE will do all on its lonesome just by running the sequence and macroing it.

Interesting if computer control through RR&Co.  is used though.

Hi Dave

Sorry I missed the week end postings

You can retain your existing single schedule by selecting the schedule in Despatcher and then select: :

Newark Station block / Section Settings / Actions

You can then incorporate the other Dave's (G'daysysdney)) commands into any one or combination of:

Entry : Brake : Stop :  Continue : Release

You could put some commands, if required, into the schedule section settings of the subsequent block.

Its a very powerful tool

Have fun

You guys using RR&Co always impress me with what it will do although, given the steep learning curve in a medium about which I know absolutely nothing, I don't think Maxmill will be using it any time soon.  Additionally, there's far too much still to do to make it look like a model railway !!

You never know Peter,
I got into RR&CO many years ago when I ended up with a large layout and ran out of hands to run the number of locos I had on it when friends weren't around to play trains.

(I am nowhere near using it to its full capabilities as I keep wandering off and doing other things - but I have recently found my mojo again and am tidying up the train room so that's a start. My goal is to get the layout automated so that I can sit and watch the trains roll by with lots of variation.  Still a long way off from achieving what are resident RR&Co expert John has done….. maybe I'll get there one day.)

You are so right about what can be achieved with RR&Co in the hands of someone who can get the best out of it. I continue to experiment and make slow progress and, like much of his modelling, John's work is always an inspiration. I am sure it would help if I just stopped designing, cutting and building laser cut items and actually ran some trains.

You guys are flattering me again but glad to be of help.
Train Controller is amazing software. Its so versatile there are invariably numerous ways to solve any single solution - one its many attractions.

I have a butterfly mind and tend to flit from project to project but I do try spend some time each week pottering with Train Controller - keeps the grey cells ticking over and means I dont have to relearn everything when I start regular running again.

Ok so after much experimenting I think I have cracked it. I set up the block within the schedule to have a 25 second wait then an additional 5 seconds. I then get the whistle to sound on the continue state which is activated at the end of the 25 seconds. After a further 5 seconds the train starts to move off. I did notice that although the whistle is a push button it stays on, so I added a whistle off to the release state which then means it is ready for the next station. Not content with that I am now programming station announcements for one of my stations using a remote speaker inside the station building but connected to the laptop.

:Happy      Excellent - well done.

Its always extremely satisfying when you solve a problem like this with Train Controller  :thumbs

I must explore this!

For someone who used to live and breathe Excel Visual Basic Macros in his working life it's strange that the potential to use Macros with NCE has not sucked me in (so far anyway!)

RR&Co is a Bridge too Far for me, bus or no bus I'm afraid
