The video!
This is my first attempt at a video…..so I apologise for the quality and absence of editing (next learning project)I will post more detail on my layout thread but I thought it might appeal to a wider audience than GWR fans
The video shows the assembly of a Pick Up Goods……..this is the sequence:
The trip loco moves to siding 6 while, at the same time the Yard Pilot with Shunters Truck attached moves from the Head Shunt to Siding 5…..couples with the Brake Van…..back to the Head Shunt…..moves to Siding 2…..couples with 5 wagons……back to the Head Shunt…..pushes assembled train to siding 6 and uncouples……moves back to Head Shunt……Trip Loco couples with train and pushes it back to main station when ….after a pause….it rejoins the Main Line and heads off to Chester.
The sequence is automatic from the time the first movement is started with a mouse click. There are times when nothing seems to happen…………….the ZZZZZ you can hear is not me snoring (I am actually holding my breath that it will all work) but the movement of the Tortoises……..they take a while to operate….I have had some spectacular derailments so I deliberately built in these pauses to allow time for the route to be set.
Overall the speed of the locos appears faster in the video……with certain exceptions it is generally between 8-10 scale mph….this is still a little faster than I would like but I have some dodgy pointwork/transitions.
The exceptions are the Kadee shuffle where the loco has to jerk very unprototypically to uncouple…….and in this case couple………..the component wagons are left over uncoupling magnets…..the sidings are on a slight curve…..the violent jerk forward is my best solution to date…….better than the giant hand in the sky but not great
Whatever…….I hope you find it worth watching

I see what you mean in regard to the "shuffle" its amazing what a difference a slight curve can make.

I will follow the tutorial with interest.

The coupling schedules were the ones that took the time…..the problem was lack of consistency…….I was so relieved that I got it to work every time I was frightened to tinker with it………I guess I should reaaly attempt to fine tune it:shock:

If it's all done from a single press on a button, then I might look at RR & Co (once I've learnt how to wire a changeover switch ……….)
If you go "sound", I'll think about RR & Co ………………:cheers

Glad you liked the video………………there were a couple of unforced errors which everybody either hasnt noticed or are too polite to point out!……………thats in addition to trying to break through the warehouse wall!
