25th August 2008 Im still alive just not been working on my Layout because Im down in Newton Abbott (Devon) on our annual family Holidays,

Today we spent the afternoon at South Devon Railway a short heritage line. Some great stock ( I think they stole it from my shed and had it enlarged ! )

Here is a compilation of some of the video I took. I had to reduce the quality as in its original format it was 56MB !

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ewJFWYBVS9k

The line runs from Buckfastleigh to Totness with trains running about every hour in each direction. We were pulled by 5526 on the way out and a green 37 on the way back,

John

Occasionally, while scribing plastic card for the 357th time to make the 36th crosspiece of one of 16 supports for a platform, I have difficulty remembering why I am doing what I am doing.
Thank you John for reminding me.
Now I just have to get the sights, sounds and slow running onto my layout.
Have a great holiday….

Glad you all liked the video, I knew there were several GWR fans here !

A couple of still shots that might give some inspiration

Excellent, John. I've got a stack of photos taken on this line, over about 7 visits. I'll have to dig a few out.

Perhaps I could use this thread to post them? Seems sensible to keep them all together.

Don't forget this is a video section so anyone looking for still photographs would be looking elsewhere, and vice versa.

Super pictures and a great reference for anyone wishing to model a branch line terminus. I am intrigued by the railway sleeper lying in the middle of the points, presumably to protect the points mechanism from heavy feet?

Thought it was in the "prototype railways" section??

This section is Videos - Prototype Jeff, then we have Videos - Model Railway. If you like I can bring them all under the Prototype heading.

I'm not sure on this one, Bob.

It seems sensible to keep all the video posts together, but it's also natural to do what John has done and record a visit to a specific site on one thread, wether it's video or still photos. This is a natural way to go if (like John) a member has taken both and it certainly keeps all responses together.

I think if I were looking for prototype information on a particular place, I would go to the "prototype Information" site and forget to check in the "Video" section.

Perhaps I'd put all prototype info (Still or video) together and leave the video section for videos of model railways and such.

OK then, you asked for it !!!

Prototype section to include both video and stills material. Section to be divided into 3 sub sections:-

1) Old railways (closed and pre-privatisation)  2) Preserved Railways (worldwide)  3) Modern Railways.

Model Railway videos to be seperate section to Stills.

Over to you for comment!!:lol::lol:

I did wonder when I posted the stills if I should put them in the prototype stills but like Jeff it seemed logical to add them in the same place as the videos. Perhaps the prototype section should be divided into
  1. Particular places as some heritage type places will be visited by several people and it would be good to keep info together.
  2. stills of particular locos (they could be taken anywhwere
  3. videos of particular locos / stock again they could be tke anywhere it the train that would be of interest not the place.
