This is addictive. Live from Fostoria, Ohio.

Just switched over at 02.17 UK time and boy, they sure know how to run a train in the US.  It took several minutes to pass and the noise was just incredible…:thumbs

I think I'll pop back in daylight hours…

Thanks Martin for a cracking link…

Gee, that's a busy line, but not surprised having looked up Fostoria on Google Earth.  I guess housing would be pretty cheap considering the noise.  I can see the Estate Agent details now……

I found what I think is the location but can't see how you send a link to that place.  File/share/post is greyed out.  Not even sure if that's what you do anyway.  Any bright ones around?

That's amazing! I just sat and watched a tanker train go through. I couldn't believe how many tanks there were - and I probably missed the first half!

I need a faster connection speed but a hopper train has just passed and I don't think I could afford all those hoppers even in "OO" scale !!!

Great link Martin - if slightly spoilt by France Telecom and their clockword internet system  !!!

Hi Martin,

I have just seen a stream of road trailers go through, an awesome sight. Do we carry road trailers on the trains in the UK? I wonder how close the sound is to what you hear when you are actually beside the track. I had to turn the sound down on my earphones.

Someone on there just supplied this link: http://www.wcmlcam.org.uk/live_cam_1024x768.html

It's a UK live railway webcam site with three cameras, I believe.

I watched a train go through at 5:22:45 local time. It stopped passing through at 5:30:45, a full eight minutes later !  But I could hear the loco horn for a few minutes before and after it passed; it must great (not!) to live near the line…

Yesterday I watched a guy walk across wearing headphones and singing along to himself. I doubt he was aware there were 184 people (at that moment) around the world watching and listening to him

Just as bad was when a huge freight reversed through the station yesterday evening and after 30 odd cars had passed, it stopped, blocking everything.  Two young girls arrived, were getting restless and at one point I thought they were going to chance it and scramble under the wagons to cross the line.  The train went forward stopped and then reversed again and each time they were getting more impatient.  This went on for a good ten minutes and I was relieved that the train eventually pulled out and the girls were able to cross safely.

I'm also amazed that unlike the UK, the bells go and the barriers are lowered at the very last second and there is no margin for error whatsoever….

Scary stuff…

I just watched a double-header drag 135 wagons through. That's some pulling power!

When you consider that the American 'cars' are two or three times the length of  the British 'wagons', the sheer length of the goods trains are incredible.

Estimating each 'car' to be a forty-footer - which I believe a lot of them are, 135 cars x 40 feet =5,400 feet = 1,800 yards. Add the two or three locos onto that and the trains are about a mile long!

Even worse, Perry - most of them are 50 footers - plus the length of the couplers.  That makes the thing about 2450 yards plus the locos.

Thinking about the length of these trains they could pull in at two British stations at the same time!
