Maybe better than some of the liveries that came afterwards though.

The privatised railways - another failed  experiment, putting political dogma before common sense.  I note that Labour will not be paying compensation to the shareholders.  Good!  The state run railways of Europe have taken enough money from ther British railway system.  Now let's renationalise the utilities, starting with that absolute disgrace, Thames Water.

I hated the LNER Apple Green but the darker (Brunswick ?) green was great.

Curly sandwiches is a bit of an overused cliche.  I once had a very nice steak dinner in the dinig car travelling from King's Cross to York.  I don't think that you can actually get a cooked meal on the privatised trains, but feel free to correct me.

I days of yore, I travelled from York to London weekly and had some excellent meals - both dinner and breakfast but that was in the "good old days" when trains were warm and comfortable and seldom over-crowded.

Nowadays the sandwiches are so awful they don't even remember how to curl !  The last time I had a panini on board, parts of it were close to boiling point whilst other parts were virtually cold and I think the panini itself had travelled the route so often, it had a long service medal …………………..

My Grandad worked in BR's catering department. He welded the tops on meat pies.

To my simple mind it just seems wrong to be paying dividends to shareholders, instead of spending that money on maintaining and improving the service.

However, no doubt it's something to do with getting investment from the private sector rather than taxation.

I'm no expert but there do seem to be better state run, or partially state funded, rail systems in other countries and totally agree with Terry regarding Thames Water and all other utility companies.

Oh well, back to the real world.

Bring back BR green with yellow speed whiskers as I remember from the Liverpool to Southport service in the happy days of the late 50s with outside toilets and TB!

Yes, I'm officially an old git now since a significant birthday last week sans hangover!
