Just for fun, here's a poll suggested by Les
If you model more than one, vote for your favorite and explain.
Comments on your vote, as always, are encouraged, as well as adding more detail (E.g. GWR, Cambrian coast line)

Well I follow the GWR/WR  ( very loosely)  don't know why - get some stick from some of the others here in South Aust but it does seem that we are the majority. Funny that :P

It was my intention to be around the final days of steam leading into diesels with freight stock from many years.
But lately with fine running locos appearing in later colours or versions, etc, I see my layout slowly becoming GWR/WR & the rest.
( It would help if certain shops did not go & get Special editions made as well)

I buy whatever I like and don't confine myself to just one era or country.  My favourite is probably German as I prefer the models that are made by the German manufacturers.  However I have UK, USA, Swiss, Australian rolling stock too.  If somone made South African Steam or Indian I would buy that too.

My favourite is American. Several reasons: value for money, superb running, superior coupling [compared to British], the variety of railroads that intermingle, huge range of available accessories [I'm in HO]

Also model UK steam - sort of GWR, but I'm the first to admit I'm no historian.
I have one Aussie diesel too.

I went for LNER/BR Eastern only because that's what I'm modelling in the form of Mill Road Halt. My next project is going to be Dutch H0 based on Enkhuizen, but I do have a soft spot for giving Swiss or Austrian a go in N!

Maybe with the proof that I can do a layout will give you all some hope that one of these will go somewhere.

As you may have guessed, I went for GWR /BR Western region, but it should really be steam /diesel transition.
That gives me scope to run GWR locos, many of which never did get repainted in BR colours, as well as early diesels which were seen side by side for some time.

This forum must be having some effect on me though, because I have a walthers Union Pacific diesel and have a strange urge to buy some of Chris's limited edition models (as well as other diesels) which never crossed the River Severn :!:

When funds permit, I'll be branching out into early BR diesels.

GWR Steam - the layout is nominally based in 1934 but anywhere between 1900 and 1948 will do.
Why, well, amongst all of the atmosphere of summer saturday seaside specials and charming rural branchlines, clanking great South Wales coal trains and huge regional stations…. there was/is a lot of RTR GWR N scale… pull it out of the box and run it ,  tiny 0-4-2 tanks to hulking great 4-6-0 Kings, coaches, autocoaches, diesel railcars, wagons, brakevans:!:
I'll probably have a go at kit/scratchbuilding rolling stock later on, but it would have been a quiet railway if I'd waited until then.

I may have just picked the wrong vote as I put BR Pre-privatisation as I am mainly BR Blue, but firmly set in Cornwall which of course is BR Western Region.

There is an awful lot of stock which came nowhere near Cornwall as well, and in the period from GWR to present day…

Not that it affects me but what about those who model Aust,NZ, etc?

My layout is loosely based in East Anglia, but no doubt I will frequently get locos and rolling stock visting from - well, just about anywhere!

Good point and one I should have included, perhaps as "other lines".
I can't adjust the poll choices (I don't think) but I believe that Bob can.
If so can you dothe honours, Bob :?:
Will possibly be useful for future reference.

American N Gauge for me, based on the Baltimore & Ohio (circa 1960) but in their operating region I can run Chesapeake & Ohio, Pennsylvania, New York Central and Western Maryland to name a few.

Again like Mike C, great range, affordable and better running and coupling (in my opinion)

I voted GWR/Western Region because that's what I'm modelling and I get such a kick out of seeing them run again.

Being from the north of England, LMS/LNER were the everyday workhorses around me all the time and wonderful they were too, but the Western, and their neighbours the Southern, meant holidays, excitement, beautiful loco's, sunshine, summer days trainspotting, seaside etc etc etc - a combination made in heaven.  8)  8)  8)

I have added 'Other Lines (Please Explain)' to the bottom of the choice list. Should cover most things now.
