That is , hours per WEEK.

OK, based on what I read in various threads, some YMRers spend some hours per week on the hobby.

Me, I spend a minimum of 24 hours a week on my layout  - some days I may get to spend 8 hours on the hobby.

It does not included time spent on forums or running on other layouts.

So this poll is just to see how many hours a WEEK you spend on the layout.

I think my vote of 8 to 12 is a low estimate and will soon be ramped up to 16 to 20 or more as the building of my layout gathers pace.

It's difficult to seperate computer hours from modelling hours, but if I included the time at the moment spent planning for the 2010 show etc., then my hours per week would take off :thumbs:thumbs:thumbs

These days it would be lucky to be one hour a week.

My time input varies quite a bit depending on season, weather and of course other commitments.  As an average about 10 - 12 hours a week would be a fair call though sometimes it is zero and on a good week may be double that range.

I reckon to spend about an hour most evenings attending to some part of the hobby whether it be detailing the stock, painting a kit or something else indoors.

I have had a whole day once a week to devote to hobby interests (not only modelling and not exclusively transport subjects) but tomorrow will be the last of those thanks to a change in the work environment.

On the positive side the layout is in quite good shape coming out of winter as compared with previous years so may not need as much elbow-grease to keep it running smoothly this year.

I'm in the three months of the year when I simply look at the layout but do little else.  Pressures of parish, family and (am I allowed to mention this once again:question:roll:) kayaking.  I did however spend fifteen minutes early afternoon today powering up the layout and running all four DCC locos just to make sure everything was still A-OK.  And it was.

Come September …

When im working (10 hour shift plus 2 hours commuting) theres a good chance i ll only put in an hour or so per day, i normally do 10 days on 5 days off!!!!, on those heavenly days when i m off i could spend 3 hrs per day even more if i m kit building!!!!
This will probably change in October when the new addition arrives!!!!

Hmmm, 2-4 hrs per week average.
This weekend just gone, a long one as Friday was an RDO, probably saw 5 hours per day as I realigned my track bed to reduce the grades/banks as much as possible.
Some times life gets in the way and nothing will happen for weeks, other times I'll get a good run at spending time on the layout.
Slowly, steadily.

With work commitments, and the time of year, I ticked 4/8 hours, but that needs to improve soon , as the new layout needs some hours spent on it to move it forward, and I haven't even started the Module yet !!

8 to 12 for me. That's the advantage of being a single pensioner, there's nobody saying what I can do. :thumbs

In summer,  it's normally none at all (excluding the brief daily visits here) but, in winter, it can be as high as 8 hours per week.

Given the choice,  it would be around 11 hours every day !!!!!

I supose I'm lucky in one way, because of my shift pattern I get 4 days off evry week.

(that's four on four off) so I get more spare time than some one who holds a conventional day job Mon-Fri with just 2 days off.

I usually spend at least 2 of my four days doing something modeling related even if it's just research for the next project.

Once I get on the bench though I like to plod on and can spend up to 8 hours at a time on something, just breaking for coffees and food breaks.

Even at work (like NOW!) I'm up to something like reading the posts on the forums!

Same here.  It is zero at the moment as it is so cold outside.  The garage is a most uninviting place.  I am working indoors on my West Highland station building. and further tanks for my tank train.

Well I have almost unlimited time at my disposal but I have a lot of interests and hobbies which all compete for their share!  Having broken my wrist nearly a year ago all of these had to be put on hold but my main ones - Music and Painting - always take precedence when a gig or show is getting nearer.  Now the wrist is getting back to normal  (well almost) I reckon I'll be modelling for at least 5 hours per day (except for the odd day out etc) and even more in Winter.:thumbs

I don't often get an entire weekend to myself but with Sharon away on business in New Zealand and Chile I am in the unaccustomed position of having three whole days to spend as I wish.

Not all will be railway time - there are some long-overdue jobs around the house and garden to attend to - but I hope to be able to spend around 4 hours on each of three days attending to the hobby.
