Anyone know who John Polley is?
I wasn't really sure where to putthis video so hopefully it's ok here. If not feel free to move it around a bit.Anyway, has anyone seen this one or is it old news which has only just found its way to Wiltshire? Maybe 'we' know this man? Either way it looks like a great layout and I'm sure I've heard that "Mind the gap" announcement somewhere on this forum before ;-)

Whatever, it looks like a good layout but, having had the tube stock hand made in Sri Lanka, I shudder to think what it might have cost.

In regard to Mind the Gap, I learnt that it did not occur as an announcement until the early 70s. However I can let you have a "Mind the Doors" recording if you wish :pedal

In regard to Mind the Gap, I learnt that it did not occur as an announcement until the early 70s.
Phased in across safety-critical locations from the mid 70's I believe and at a time when passenger numbers were in sharp decline meaning platform staff were being removed in droves to save money.
It has subsequently become more or less universal.
The previous iteration was often more like "Minotaurs" or "Minor Tors", called out by as many staff as were assembled at the time and in as many Imperial Accents as you can imagine.
I think my record was encountering TEN platform staff at sleepy Lambeth North one Sunday afternoon. The function of all seemed to be no more than to make these announcements, smoke (it was permitted on the tube then, though not among on-duty staff) and discuss the previous evening's reverie in a thick Jamaican patois.
Abbey Road? - class stuff. Never knowingly had the pleasure of meeting its owner.
