Not that impressed

(well Mail Online, same thing)

I remember going there with a couple of school mates in the early 80s when we used to go spotting at York station.
Busy building a new show layout …..

I seem to think it was York Model Railway Society who built it - either them or the railway employees themselves when York had the carriage and wagon works on Poppleton Road.

You're right there Peter. You should come down under to see how many decent 'specialist' shops there are in Sydney. I'm sure you could count them all on one hand and that is excluding your thumb… I can tell you that there is really one shop that Gormo and I use that really specialise in UK railways… The rest are either a general mix or specifically Australian prototype. That's probably why genuine "model shops" are now few and far between. "Our" shops simply don't cater for the masses and there are not enough of us to keep many such "specialist" shops going - particularly with internet shopping available to us all.
Cheers, Gary.
