Bodgem & Hackit strike again

Looks like I'm going to be busy for a while, just received a load of etched brass sides for Maunsell open thirds and Ironclad restaurant cars, plus some etched brass bogie side frames for Urie/Maunsell tenders.
Modelling the 1930s SR in N gauge could be considered a sign of insanity, no RTR 4-6-0s, no catering vehicles, no push pull sets,  currently available RTR, 1 2-6-0, 2 4-4-0s, 3 0-6-0s, 1 0-4-4T 1 0-6-0T; 2 4-6-0 kits, 1 4-4-0 kit, 2 0-6-0T kits 1 0-6-2T; occasionally a discontinued Q class or E4 kit will appear on Ebay.
Moving into the 1940s you can add the Bulleid pacifics and Q1 but then you need that horrible malachite green!

I have up to now managed to produce a few hacks and scratch builds , including an Adams A12 0-4-2, Drummond K10 4-4-0, 2 Nelsons currently in the works getting earlier tenders to replace the high sided ones I originally built; a Dapol M7 is currently being hacked into  T1, push pull sets are an easy hack from Farish "suburbans"
The coach sides will replace the sides of restaurants on  Farish "mainline" open 3rds on Dapol Maunsells, I already have the artwork to print to clear plastic self adhesive. I chose the Ironclad restaurants rather than Maunsells as the Maunsells have recessed kitchen doors, I may try the Maunsells at a later date when I have the practice with these, however 86 year old hand/eye coordination may have an effect on that!

The bogie side frames I use with BHE N15 white metal tender bodies hacked to take Union Mills drives (6 wheel) plus an extra axle I will need cast axle boxes for these,

Some idea of what I'm doing :-
The etches

The artwork

UM drive in BHE N15 tender with etched bogie sides and cast axle boxes

Some current members of the SR 4-6-0 fleet
509, Langley bodies /Fleischmann chassis Urie S15
837 Loco Langley/Fleischmann, cab roof and running plate hacked, tender BHE N15 Union Mills Maunsell S15
491 Loco Langley/Minitrix 2077, tender BHE N15  Minitrix 2077 Urie H15 (need to sort the coal out!)
742 BHE N15, Peco Jubilee loco chassis, UM drive

Loco chassis for future builds will use whatever is available cheap on Ebay provided wheel sizes/spacings are near enough correct, some of the LNER "B"s are being considered, I like the Fleischmann chassis but they are almost priced out of the range I'm prepared to pay, I did win one "non runner" for £25, found the fault was a blown bulb causing a short circuit, as I didn't need a bulb that was the best result I've had so far. Any Fleischmann tender drives not used behind Langley S15s come in handy for Drummond 4-4-0s, especially Union Mills T9s which represent the wide cab T9s allocated to Eastern and Central sections in the late 20s and 30s, as I model East Dorset/SW Hants I need the narrow cab ones so I've milled a few thou of a UM cab and splashers.

Some other stock
536 Q class hack from Farish 4F
862 Nelson hacked from Peco Jubilee with Rivarrossi Nord tender drive, currently in works for tender change
524 Adams A12 brass scratch build, UM tender drive
94 B4 0-4-0 dock tank Peco kit,Arnold chassis

355 Union Mills  700 clas 0-6-0
47 Daopl M7 with push pull 255 Dapol M7 renumbered otherwise as bought
120 T9 4-4-0 UM loco hacked cab and splashers, Langley/Fleischmann tender
387 Scratch built brass body, Farish 4P loco chassis (wheel base 1' too long) tender UM.

Etches design done by Worsley works (Allen Doherty) in Lancashire, don't know who does the actual etching though. I'll probably have a few surplus to "dispose of"

Cheers MIKE
