I was waiting for some paint to dry yesterday and decided to go through some of my boxes of bits. I have no idea of what happened but I found some pieces that I thought would make an interesting NG model. The first item was a flat wagon that I bought cheap perhaps with something in mind at the time which has disappeared from my memory. I then found a tank that I think came from a Hornby tank car, I have no idea of what happened to the rest of it but that didn't matter. After sitting the tank on the flat car I decided to make a NG oil wagon with a difference. It took about 30 minutes to paint the tank and the wagon and then glue them together, of course we need some way of getting the oil out of the tank and I went on a search in the bits box and found some castings that I thought looked a bit like a pump. Next we need a hose and a nozzle, some copper wire and the end of a buffer provided the parts for that and I was starting to see this all coming together. I found a big oil drum and then a part that I thought looked a bit like a fire extinguisher once I cut the bottom off it. The oil leak on the tank was done using gloss clear with some colour added and because it is quite shiny compared to the rest of the wagon it appears quite sticky and yucky..just like oil! The whole project took an alarming 1hour and 15mins to complete and it has got rid of some the junk I have been hanging on to. I would like to add some more bits to busy it up a bit, a broom, a mop, perhaps a bucket, but I am sure I will find some other things as time goes on. It just goes to show what you can make in a short time with very little thought or planning.

My On30 layout will be in the garden eventually so I am making things with the future layout in mind. I still have some of the scratchbuilt stock I ran on my exhibition layout "Passionfruit Creek" (shown below) in HOn2.5 that may be used on a future layout, stay tuned.

Thank you for your lovely comments, especially for a model that is literally thrown together with junk parts. I have another wagon that is now crying out for some attention but I think it will require some scratchbuilding of parts to see it complete.

My narrow gauge layout "Passionfruit Creek" was a bit of an oddity consisting of four boxes that comprised a tourist centre, the paddlesteamers at Echuca, the gold rush in Victoria and timber getting in the Dandenong ranges. Funny enough I was never overly happy with my efforts on this layout which was put together in two weeks, but the exhibition visitors loved it and it was shown at quite a lot of exhibitions in Sydney and Brisbane. I think because the display included panels that described some of the history and photos of the areas depicted made it something of an educational journey rather than just a layout….who knows.
