There seems to be a rash of dodgy Chinese sellers, names consisting of random letters and numbers and with 0 ratings; the scam is copying recent listings at ridiculously low prices e.g. an Arnold N gauge set of a diesel shunter and 2 wagons originally listed at over £60, scam listed it as BiN £8.80, so the old adage applies "if it looks too good to be true" … … …

Doesn't appear to be limited to model railways listings some model cars also noticed.

Ebay are responding to reports and removing the listings so it's not easy to post links to examples as they get taken down, but a few have been caught out.

Not sure what might be behind it, get rich quick merchants or somebody has even suggested maybe Chinese trying to discredit Ebay/Paypal.

Hi Mike.   In 2017 I purchased a carriage on eBay ,which didn’t match what I was expecting . I returned the item, and got a refund, now this may be a coincidence , but shortly after I received a letter through Royal Mail with a demand from a mobile phone company “ for a phone that I never ordered”. That was a right PITA.Best wishes. Kevin

Staying on the thread Kevin.
