New site coming - see http://www.peco-uk.com/

That site seems to have been coming for a while - I think they may have hit some problems going live with it.

Its about time they had a new website as the old one was useless ! :roll:

I agree and the concept of having to buy a paper catelogue in this day and age is crazy. It is good to see Peco moving into the 21st century at last.

We have numerous friends in Beer having lived and worked in the village briefly in 1998-9 so I usually drop into the Peco premises on our travels.  

The impression I get is that they are a well-run business knowing their strengths and trading to them.

The staff seem to be mostly at the senior end of the scale and (while I don't get access to the factory floor) seemingly less than interested in "new toys" which includes the internet.

They are aware of their limited presence there and I have always gained the impression that they felt no need to change that.

It seems as though the first tentative steps are being taken to bring what is actually quite a small operation in a modest village into the world of 21st Century modelling.  I wish them well.

This was also my first thought but then I remembered how much enjoyment I have had in the past when looking through old catalogues and adverts at products ,many of which have long been out of production  The W & H Catalogue from the 1960's is probably one of the best examples, more of a reference book than a catalogue of items for sale. I wonder if internet catalogues will still be available in 50 years time?

I do like to be able to sit down and read through a good catalogue.  It is handy to be able to look something up while in the garage, or just an engrossing read while on the "throne"!

The Peco catalogue is only £2.75 so is pretty good value compared to the price of some.

Not sure how they will cope with this computer business, I know that least two of the staff have them now!

Normally, I'd agree with you Chris but I can't just pop into a shop and buy one out here.  Having said that, their current web "offerings" are dreadful for a company of that repute (and presumably clout in the railway modelling world) - it's simply a list of what they produce and a price.  One photograph, as we know, is better than a thousand words and I'd like to see what I'm buying.

Nice to see them with a web-site, I myself used to enjoy a printed catalogue.
Still in the age of the internet, I think companies and retailers need to get onboard, also I would love to see more offering electronic payment facilities, Thats were the big warehouse type traders are making the money. regards,Derek

Working a bit more now is the new website but no on-line catalogue as yet.

Do Peco really need one?

All their products are sold by retailers of whom many have excellent sites with full information.

In effect they are doing the job of publicizing the product and this does't cost Peco a penny.

Maybe it's a smart business move.

But I do agree a comprehensive list would be useful.
