Nice to see this Mike.  Wonder why he would release kits of previously released Bachmann models though?  Some quite interesting prototypes nevertheless.

I'm just working on overhauling my Cauliflower at the moment.

I've been trying for some time to upgrade my GEM LNWR Cauliflower chassis.  I decided to give the brass chassis kit on the site a go and just ordered it.  I will let you know how I get on in my workbench thread.  Don't hold your breath though, I ain't no Speedy Gonzales.

Got my S&D 7F and SR Zclass 0-8-0T kits at TINGS, so far only got on Farish 2-8-0 to use the chassis  from, keeping a close eye on fleabay. Looks like some decent instruction - 2 A4 pages with diagrams.

Cheers MIKE

Hi John,

I am looking forward to that.

Thanks to the OP for starting this thread.

I need a George V and a Prince of Wales.

I wonder if Lytchett have upgraded the old Gem castings.

Never had much luck with previous white metal kits?

Too much deformation in some of the mouldings.

regards,

Derek.

You are right, some kits contain castings that simply cannot be used.  I think these are not bad at all.  I didn't build mine but it looks the part.  Here's how it looked quite a few years ago:

I added a few details.

Its great to see a premier line loco at work.
Thanks for the photo that loco maybe pushing on in years but one would recognize its LNWR origins.

regards,

Derek

The model is pushing on in years as well.  No idea when the loco and tender bodies were built (using epoxy) but it must be in excess of 30 years.  The builder, sadly, is no longer with us.

The proto loco did get into BR ownership but all were gone by the early to mid 50s.  Pictures I've seen show the loco with the BR number on the cabsides and that's it, no crest on the tender.

:)Hi John,

Did that chassis kit arrive. I am interested in the quality of those Gem chassis.

If I chance ordering some LNWR locos from them it would be nice to know if you get a decent chassis?

Derek

Yes Derek, it did.  I am very impressed with it.

10 pages of instructions, proper drawings not scrawled cartoons, and provision for EM, just the job.  Tender chassis as well.

I have ordered some CSB parts from High Level so the chassis will be sprung.

Looks as though we'll be having some loco build threads.  Not sure when I'll start mine, I have to get some coaches progressed and off my workbench first.

Hi John,
It will be a little while before I start a building thread.
Up to my ears in turnout production and another couple of weeks before the camera returns.
I shall place a loco order next month and indulge myself in the joys of whitemetal.
Give me N/S or brass anyday.

regards,

Derek.
