Shipping Charges

Hi I wonder why Hattons shipping charges have increased for items over 300 grams ,they use to be quite reasonable to shipping items under 800 grams. The last time I used them in 2016 they charged £5 for items weighting up to 500 grams ,now it is £12

I don't know if the UK postal charges have gone up but in the past, Hattons subsidised a lot of the postal costs - one only had to compare their charges to other suppliers - we here in Oz got it lucky with  postal charges that was offset by the removal of the UK VAT.

H Sol  accept that but Hattons are only using ROYAL MAIL for up to 300 grams  anything over that is by private firms .Before they use to use Royal Mail up to 800 grams which was much cheaper. It now makes small orders too expensive to buy

Hi Brian,

My personal experience of Hattons' shipping fees, for someone who lives in France, is a truly excellent one and as Sol said, they subsidise some shipping fees.

Hattons are box shifters and sell at very good prices and seem to have a large and loyal customer base, so probably do as best they can for their customers everywhere.

Perhaps you can take your concerns up with them directly, as I've always been happy with their speedy and friendly customer service people.

Good luck and enjoy your railway,

Bill

At 6'4'', Bill is a tall chap, then again, when horizontal he is rather long and people often used to trip over him! . . . and so a nickname was born :)

Postal charges have indeed increased here in the UK ,as have fares, utility's ,insurance , and motoring costs..
Suppliers more recently seem to turn to courier company's to shift goods . That service is getting more efficient all the time with timed delivery's and information regarding parcel  tracking . Probably not much help to you guys in OZ, but we are suffering with you.

Welcome to the brave new world of privatisation!

A couple of years ago a notice appeared next to the post box on a pole in our country lane.  Royal Mail informed us that 'in order to improve the service to customers', the only collection on Saturdays would be changed from 11.30am to 9.30am.  Work out that piece of flawed logic if you can.

Not long after, as I passed the site of the pillar box, I noticed that it had disappeared.  Only the wooden pole with some red paint thereon remained, as it does to this day.  Obviously Royal Mail decided to 'improve the service to customers' even more!

Well it cost a bomb to post anything in Oz which is not unexpected as they paid the guy in charge 4.6 million dollar a year which about 2.8 million pounds
