Can't open photos

I am coming across a number of forum entries that post pictures using Photobucket, but I can't see them unless I change my account to allow third party hosting. Does anyone know how I do that please?

Richard, I think you have to pay Photobucket if you want to be able to link your photos stored in Photobucket into other websites.

Or, if they are someone else’s photos already in a topic, and there are a few since photobucket changed it’s sharing policy, you won’t be able to see them unless the original poster pays Photobucket the fee that they are asked for or replaces the photos with ones linked to a different host.

Hi Sol, many thanks for posting the links. Reading them doesn't fill me with much encouragement I'm afraid. obviously existing users are very unhappy.

Hi Marty, thanks for you prompt reply, sadly that seems to be the case. Presumably there are other formats that will allow contributors to post image without being slugged with $450 pa?

Try  www.flickr.com     but then this forum allows you to have photos saved in here in your posts.

Hi There, As Marty and Sol have said, Since Photobucket changed there hosting policy you now have to pay for third party hosting so any member or former member who has posted an Image on any forum via PB has to pay them an annual fee to allow others to see those Images. (Many many thousands of disgruntled  customers around the world)
I'm slowly working through YMR recovering Images that are blocked and moving them into YMR's own gallery so they are visible again. This is a long slow process as there are quite a few ! and I'm splitting my time between older historical threads that are the essence of YMR as created by the founder Robert, and current active threads that are the backbone of YMR. My advice (as mentioned by Sol) would be to upload any Images you want to post, Into the YMR gallery  so going into the future if flikr and other third party hosters follow PB, We won't have the same problems occurring.

This is probably a good opportunity to say to all members (and management )  if there is a particular item or thread you really want to see repaired, feel free to pop a link to it in here (Or send me a PM) with the thread and post details and I'll add it to the list.

Cheers

Hi Richard,

Best to keep a relatively low resolution copy without location details specifically here. Saves hassle.

I used to use photo bucket but have left and now use Postimage.

John  :)

Oh, Dr Beeching what have you done?
There once were lots of trains to catch, but soon there will be none.
I'll have to buy a bike, 'cos I can't afford a car.

Did Postimage resolve their hosting problems ? I Think towards the end of 2016 they were having funding issues as the host couldn't sustain there massive usage and wanted to bump up the fees significantly. They were looking for donations and/or someone who could host the pterabytes they needed for free. I think they were dropping anyone who hadn't bought a subscription to cut back on usage, but I could be wrong. No Idea on the current status though
