My old kodak is ancient in digi camera terms so time to retire it.
I am no photographer so i havent gone for a all singing and dancing camera and also cost is an issue as the latest ones can be quite expensive.
I did look at a few sites for recommendations but as with all review sites opinions vary so i ended up with a compromise really.
I have gone for a camera that seems to be not a basic compact nor a professional slr type i found a review site that said it was a good all rounder that is good for general photos with good adjustable features.
the model is this Fuji FinePix S5700
I have ordered a 2gb card with it and also a mini tripod
I got the camera from Amazon for £104 plus £3.20 for the card so it was reasonable price as with all these digi cams the original price was £199 but they quickly drop so i thought this would do me fine as i dont need the newest version for my uses.
part of the reason why i bought it was i cocked up a load of my west of england show piccys due to me not bothering to learn how to use Izabel's camera properly.

use the flower icon, this is for close up work. use the timer and use your tripod or a firm base. have a read through the different photo threads. i am no expert and Bob told me to have a read through the tips. even if you apply a couple of the tips pictures will improve. sorry if i am teaching you to suck eggs

Any photography tips you can give me is a great help i am useless
once this new one arrives i am going to have to make a point of learning how to use it properly.
Because the one i was using was Izabels i didnt really bother to learn and cocked things up because of it.
By the way Izabel is my step grandaughter

A mate has the S5700 and is equally impressed.
For tips on model photography, go to the forum section on photography and look at the threads that are there.
Two of these were by MikeC, but were transferred from the old forum by Bob (after the crash)
There are also some good links there.
It's worth spending some time with the booklet that comes with the camera, as Fuji are very good at producing comprehensive instructions for the cameras they make. Any specific queeries that you are unsure of, please do not hesitate to contact me.

My current model is the S7000, not sure but I think it is very similar to yours.
As Matt says the Macro facility (Flower Icon) is just the job for close up model shots.
Another tip, Use a tripod, NO flash, and "Apature priority" to get a good depth of field when taking pictures of your models or layout.
Look forward to seeing your pictures here soon!
