If it's an iPhone Alan, it frequently requires you to additionally enter your iTune password, otherwise it locks you out!

This happens frequently with my iPod and is Apple's marketing Dept being it's intrusive self!

This wonderful modern world we live in eh?

I take your point Bill.I'm trying to transfer my son's Iphone to my old Samsung and he's forgotten his password. It makes a simple task difficult.

Alan you should be able to recover the password via the email associated with his itunes account.
Kevin unfortunately is cought in a perfect storm. Different (old) email account that was closed by BT when Kevin was hacked . Mobile sim only number ALSO cancelled by BT when Kevin sent a new mobile back. Unfortunately Kevin didn't change over the details with Apple.  Then you get  staff at the shops who have no interest in recovering an account on a tablet over 3 years old. Sometimes I would like to take some of these unhelpful people by the gangooglies and squeeze till the pips pop. And yes I KNOW it's all about 'security' and 'Data protection' but really ! His details are somewhere on the system, it just needs someone to retrieve them, carry out some checks to make sure Kevin isn't some dasdardly criminal nicking Ipads and selling them on and actually do what they get paid for

Rant over, back to painting these b!@&y doors

Cheers

It's all about proof of purchase.

Produce your receipt and Apple will reinstate your password.

Kevin cant find the receipt Max so he went to the Apple store he purchased it from. . . ' cant find a record of the sale'   I think Kevin should adopt my dear Mothers tactics, simular situation so she went to the Apple store and was given the same brushoff, Mentioned she was feeling a bit flustered and faint so staff found her a chair. .  BIG mistake. . She outlasted all the staff from floor flunky, through various levels of supervisor, under manager and eventually a desparate Manager contacted higher Authority and pleaded with them to sort it out so he could get that b@%&$y woman out his shop as it was costing him sales
you don't mess with Mother    :mutley

Cheers

Hi Max and Matt.  Thank you for your reply. With my previous computer, the one that seemed to spend more time in Curry’s PC World, than it did at home? I ended up going to Hospital by ambulance after collapsing onto the floor. But it didn’t get me anywhere. I gave up.  Best wishes Kevin

Very good, Matt.

The receipt is the key to it, if you still have it.

I didn't, as my late mother in law passed it to me in her Will, and the old heat treated receipts go blank after a while.

I rang the Apple desk and told them my sob story. At their request, I scanned and emailed a copy of the Death Certificate and a Statutory Declaration from the Executors (sister in law and brother in law), stating that I was the beneficiary of the Will to the extent that I inherited the iPad.

I know that this story isn't the same as Kevin's; but I'm telling it to show that the problem is NOT being caused by Apple being difficult.  They will bend over backwards to find a way to help.

Cheers

I think the helpdesk people are much more inclined to help Max, they are working anyway whereas those in the shops are mainly  interested in sales and comission, dangle the sale of a new ipad in front of them and I'm sure they would try harder

Reading this tale of woe makes me pleased I'm with Windows.

Liz has an iPad and forgot her password.  What a horrendous job we had trying to get the thing to work.  We did have the receipt but Apple insisted she didn't have an account in her name.  When we tried to create one, they said "Sorry, there already is an account in that name" …………………………..

Hi Petermac. Thank you for your reply. But it gets worse, the passwords situation is c/o the bearded geniuses at Apple that don’t? Want to do their jobs? Wherehas if I was a youngster of either sex I would probably be better off.But this is worse than that BT made a mistake? That’s new, and cancelled my Sim only contract, after a struggle, they hooked me up again and emailed me , telling me to forward my Mother’s maiden name, which I did. But I got that wrong? I phoned them and pointed out the fact that if I don’t know my Mother’s maiden name? Then who does?
  Best wishes Kevin
