You may already have your answer, but just in case it's relevant. During the site move, if at any point it wasn't able to resolve the URL for the forum (I.e. you tried to open the forum and it couldn't find the new home) Google will automatically run a search to see if it can find what you were looking for.
Just in case that's what you were seeing.

When I first went back in, Firefox/Windows put up a warning screen declaring that if I continued to the site (which was "self-certified"), I would be struck down with a virus of epic proportions, my chickens would all get eaten and I could possibly catch the "Southern Rail 3rd Rail" bug.

I logged in anyway without mishap or derailment.

I can sort out the odd virus but was genuinely fearful of the "Southern" threat

Hi Barry.  Thereby hangs a tail. I am a southern fan, besides I haven’t got the space for an LNER type of layout , having trains running around at break neck speeds. But, I am a fan of the third rail and the arc one gets when pick up shoe reaches the end of the rail, just like my working days and nights when the sky lit up. As it happens I am, at the time of writing, working on the project, and both Steam and Diesel Locos have a place in my scheme. Best wishes Kevin

That "Southern Rail 3rd Rail" bug is dangerous!

I wound up with 2 x 4 CEPs and 2 x 2EPBs despite being a confirmed GE region modeller!

I am slowly recovering, having disposed of 1 of each! :thumbs

Hi Barry.  My original plan was a Mainline terminus, just like London Bridge, going over an eight line viaduct,               my 4 Cep alas hasn’t run anywhere because it is too long, but it is green, if I was a professional cut and shut modeller one of the spare carriages could be adapted to fit into one of my two DEMU’S to give me a bit of variety, and I carried on with the Green theme with the Hornby 2  BIL and 2 HAL , when I saw the 2EPB it was in such demand that I purchased a Blue one. As for my iPad as you can see I am on it as I write ✍️ fingers crossed. Best wishes Kevin

Hi Matt.  Sorry I must have missed that, and yes it is for now, fingers crossed. It is just that Blooming Google thing that is annoying me, and I have been using it okay, up until now. Best wishes Kevin

All this talk of ceps and blips reminds me to stay well north of the Wash.

In passing, ceps here in France are mushrooms.  I wonder if the SR named their trains after them …….. :hmm

Won't do you much good - Newcastle had a 3rd rail system! As does Liverpool/The Wirral.

Overland Peter,

North Tyneside Electrics introduced by the NER in 1904, South Tyneside by the LNER in the 1930s. Ran out to Tynemouth in a loop on the North side, and South Shields on the South side, both starting from Newcastle (platforms 1-7). Replaced by DMUs in the 1960's. Originally 3 coach Multiple Units, replaced by 2 car Articulated Units, capable of running in multiple. In the 1950's Eastleigh built 15 2 car units, according to John Glover's book "Eastern Electric" 2EPBs in all but name.

System rebuilt into the current Tyne & Wear Metro.

The line between Liverpool Exchange and Southport was electrified by the L&Y, and the Wirral lines by the LMS in the 1930's. These made an end on connection with the Mersey Railway at Birkenhead Park. Class 508's were transferred from the Southern Region in the early 1980's, being shortened from their original 4 car consist to 3 cars.

Yes, those Tyneside EPBs were transferred to the Southern Region when the South Tyneside lines were de-electrified. The headcode 5-light system and destination screen were removed, and a smaller than standard headcode panel inserted for the SR's 2-digit system. They were always recognisable for this and also the much larger van section with a small side window let into an otherwise blank panel.

The 'spare' cars from the 508s were retained on the Southern and used in new-build class 455/7 4-car units, giving a slightly odd appearance because of the totally different profile compared to the rest of the train.
