Photos of Steam and Diesel Specials & Heritage Lines

Have decided to do a new post on the above, as, in time, the Weather and Rails will be forgotten (Till the next major disruption of course) so I'll put them here. Over the next couple of weeks I'll gradually move things over, so they will all be in one place.

Great photos Mick

They also revived some long lost memories of sitting on the top of that bridge ( with my grandfather holding on to me )as we watched all the action - especially the Kings and Castles pulling out of North Road with the Cornish Riveria Express. Normally with wheel slip as they put on the power near the now demolished signal station.
At they time my grandparents lived in Welbeck Ave and we lived in Green Park Ave.

Many Thanks

Dave

I live not far from the Eye Hospital, just off Mutley Plain, on Seaton Avenue so I haven't got far to go and watch them and take the odd snap or two.

Here's another of the T9. It was on my other camera and has only just been dowloaded. It was at Bodmin Parkway.

You have to take the rough with the smooth Gary. I intend going back to the B & W again a few times this year so can hopefully improve on some already taken. This weekends offerings will be a Western diesel (hopefully), Nunney Castle and Earl of Mt. Edgcumbe.

Beautiful sight Petermac, a Castle at speed is something to behold. It's a pity they ever got rid of them. These blue or other multicoloured variations on the same thing somehow do not have the same thrill or feeling behind them.

I agree 100% Mick - but it's the Gresley "Streaks" that do it for me. :thumbs

You don't see so many of them nowadays. Of the six in preservation I've managed to photograph 3 of them here in Devon or Cornwall. In fact I was at Liskeard on the first day one was allowed over the Tamar Bridge into Cornwall. I now have pics of Bittern, Sir Nigel Gresley & Union of South Africa. You don't hear too much about the baby streaks either (The B17's). Rode behind one of them a few times on the old Catterick Flyer.

And those are the only 3 in steam Mick. :thumbs

I was lucky enough to see all 6 lined up at Shildon for the "Great Goodbye" following the "Mallard 75" celebrations.

I think the two from "over the pond" have now gone back.

Hi again folks. I mentioned in the text from yesterday about the converted GUV to carry extra water for the non-stop run to Bristol Temple Meads. If you look carefully through one of the windows on the attached picture you can see one of the water tanks in its steel rod cage. There was another in the same position at the rear of the Guv. I'm not to sure of how the plumbing went and one would imagine that a pump would have had to be in the vehicle as well. It would make an unusual conversion. The vehicle was in plain GWR brown with the lining as shown. Unfortunately none of the shots I took clearly show the lettering at the end of the vehicle.

Managed to find this but it's not quite in focus but it is readable.

Hope its of use

The system must have worked as the train made it to Bristol ok.

South Devon Railway last weekend came up with some shots of the Ivatt 2-6-0 loco and a couple of diesels and of course 3205.

Hope you like them. More later when I do another trip.
