For North American modelers, a typical steam era snow plow set up, consisting of rotary snow plow (steam powered oil-fired boiler driving the blades only), snow plow tender (water, fuel oil), locomotive (2-8-2 Mikado in this case), Vanderbilt round water tank tender and caboose. For those who ever wondered, a knuckle coupling was bolted across the rotary blade casing when moving the plow around in the yards. Removed when clearing snow. It was not uncommon for the snow plow and tender to be pushed around by 2 or more locomotives when dealing with large 12' high drifts or compacted snow. On my list of things to model. The rotary snow plow is available in HO as a motorized unit where the blades turn (Athearn or Walters), still has to pushed around. Available in N as well (Tichy Train Group kit) but needs motorizing.
