Photo from the Nullabor Plain

Just returned from a trip on the Indian Pacific  traveling from Perth to Sydney.

On the Perth to Adelaide leg the 33 carriages were pulled by a NR class loco (NR69). This was joined by a DL class (DL40) on the leg from Adelaide to Sydney to assist in crossing the Blue Mountains.

These two photos were taken at a refueling stop on the Nullabor Plain - this section of track is said to be the longest straight track in the world

First is photo of part of the straight track

and one of the loco

At Broken Hill the train stopped long enough for a trip to the top of the original mine slag heap to take this and a few other photos -  from that height it was like looking down on a model train layout - albeit with a 30 plus carriage train!
