I'm now part way through the build of the Impetus Sentinel and thinking about a modern power train. The kit,when I got it, was complete with all the parts needed to finish, but it had an open frame motor and heavy brass gears. They'll never wear out. The primary gear is Ultrascale and I think the rest are Romford. I had a look at the guy from Newcastle and his Quad driver can go down to 20 mm wheelbase, which is what the Sentinel needs. I took the unit out of my Planet to see if it would go, as far as a 25 mm wheelbase would allow, but the motor was to big.It's a 1220 Mashima. However, a 1015 will fit. Maybe not the best motor,but with 108/1 gearing it should cope. It's not like it will be required to pull 6 bogie coaches at 80 mph.Have to get some more pennies together. I have a gearbox on order from High Level for the Fowler and I also have the wheels on the way to me. Looks like I may be a busy boy for a while. I've also got a 10 x 6 foot garden room for the railway arriving on Thursday. Phew.

The shed is at the request of the Domestic Authorities. It's being custom built as well. Gets the railway out of the house. 

Sounds the business. The good thing I've found with the shed us that it is somewhere that I can call my own space. I can spend hours in there when time permits.

I have not installed the creature comforts yet as it's like a bomb site at times due to the fact that I am still in the heavy part of the build yet but once I can clear it of timber and cumbersome stuff……..in moves the mini fridge, kettle and a comfy chair or stool of some sort.

Enjoy the build……both the shed and the layout. One turns out to be just as enjoyable as the other as long as there is no major problems with the shed. I'll say no more on that.

I'll be watching the shed build with interest too!! It's been 2 months since I first got the OK from SWMBO and I'm hoping to finish cladding the walls today!!

Sheds are good for railway modelling.  No smells in the house from paint and adhesives.  Not having to tidy up after each session ,just lock up and walk away .  When you get back ,everything is as you left it.
On top of that, less interruptions one can gather ones thoughts  in your own environment.
Mind you i did have a telephone extension in there which saved any dashing through the rain should there be a call for me.:thumbs

I take my mobile with me……….you never know when you might want a coffee.
The shed is handy as you say to just shut the door and walk away but I like a good tidy up after a couple of sessions as the crap does tend to mount up.

The pooches are popular. Gypsy will be ages with Magic. Maybe a year younger and Buddy a year younger still but are both really beginning to show their ages now. A nation of dog lovers I think.
Magic is a very handsome looking chap. Keep him away from my gypsy otherwise we'd have Golden Collies

Impetus Sentinel Chassis. Nice easy fold up job, but not happy with the motor /gearbox arrangement. I can fit a torque rod but, if possible, will swap it for a High Level Quadriver with 108/1 gearing. Photo is wired for analogue DC, but it will have a TCS chip fitted when I'm 100% happy with it.

Did those pickup springs come with the kit ?  I need some for a repair project…………not sure where to buy them without incurring huge postage costs for a bit of wire……….:roll::roll:
