The extra two storage sidings I am putting in are shown blue in the plan below.
While working on them I realised there was enough space to extend the main loop along the side of the storage sidings, across the work table and then back to the main baseboard.
Saves me having to keep raising and lowering the hinged section every time I need to get to the storage sidings, and gives me a lot more space in the middle which was getting a bit cramped.
(Also gives the trains a slightly longer run.)
This is where I'd got to last week.

It's funny how these things develop and you end up with something that was not at all what you originally intended.

If I'd known I would end up with this much space I probably would have had a double track loop with a terminus, but it's a bit late now.
Besides, I' have double the amount of catenary to make

Bit of a double test really, as I'd cut the 'orrible couplings off the Lima coaches and screwed some Kadee #19s on.
Went round the 2nd radius curves with no derailments or buffer locking.

I’ve plonked a Metcalfe small factory in as a guide, but basically I’ve got a triangular space about 350mm x 350mm x 500mm, without encroaching on railway territory.
I curved the back scene in the corner and I’m not sure now that I wouldn’t have been better leaving it straight.
I want to show building(s) backing on to the railway (hence the back of the Metcalfe factory), and I could cut it to give a better fit, or I’ve still got unbuilt the Metcalfe brewery some of which could be modified and might fit.
I plan some sort of scenic break on the left at the corner of the recess where the back scene ends, maybe some sort of bridge.
I can’t really continue much further with the catenary, until I’ve decided what goes in here, as it would then be in the way. (The next mast is roughly in the right position and held up with Blutak).
Anybody any ideas before I merrily start carving up Metcalf kits?

Mind you, the real world doesn't have corners
Played around with some mock ups yesterday and I think I may have answered my own question.
Now where did I leave that Metcalfe brewery kit :hmm

Did I notice a dip as the train came off the bridge?

It did a bit Max, but I've since been adjusting things a bit with some packing.Did I notice a dip as the train came off the bridge?

Might try a road, so I cut some bits of stone sheets to represent cobblestones.
I'll try tarmac next, but I think it looks better than a building plonked in front.

It is quite a small area. Maybe a hedge and a tree or two to break up the outline of the terrace houses on the back scene.
How about a big old GWR water tower?
Just thinking aloud.
Edit: or even push your signal box down there instead of at the end of the platform. Signalman would be able to see both down the platforms and the crossovers.
