O gauge layout project

Hello everyone. I’m an o gauge modeller called David and Col Stephens of this forum has inspired me with his layout Halstead - thanks Terry! Mine is not quite finished but almost. It represents an imaginary station on a real railway - the Basingstoke and Alton Light - as it was in 1936 just before closure. Winslade is a real hamlet beside the railway but never had a station in real life. In this scenario the line has been cut at Winslade and served the North Hants Co-Op siding. A skeleton passenger service operates - currently with a Drewry railcar as operated by the Southern in the 20s. Lots of finishing work to do including some fencing and station fixtures. Had my first exhibition today which has inspired me to crack on with completing things….

Welcome. Great looking layout. What are the dimensions? Any chance of a look at the fiddle yard (and dimensions)?

Dimensions? - gathering data for an analysis of small layouts in various scales.

Thanks  Nigel - much appreciated! Entire layout including fiddle yard  is a mere 5 x 1 feet. Fiddle such as it is consists of a basic sliding sector plate as shown - made of 3mm ply. The crude bare wood blocks at the end were added after an unfortunate dive by a loco and wagons! Does your member name refer to the Belfast and County Down Railway perchance?

Bit closer to you - Banbury and Cheltenham Direct. Which was really two branch lines until the avoiding line was built at Kingham.

Thanks for the dimensions, it just shows what you can do with a few square feet and one turnout (point). I'll have a proper look when I can get on the computer and rotate some of the photo's. If I rotate the Kindle so does the photo. Neat sector plate.

Can I share a couple of photo's with a friend of mine? Half his basement is bigger than my condo, but he is a fan of small layouts (unlike most empire builders over here who try and model 150 miles in 20 x 40 feet).

Thanks Nigel - makes sense! Although the other BCDR was closer to my childhood home in N Ireland. Sorry about the off-kilter photos from my dubious uploading. Feel free to share as you feel fit.  I’m aware that many US layouts are huge but ironically it was a Pennsylvanian modeller called Carl Arendt who first showed me what a micro layout philosophy could achieve. The beauty of O is that the rolling stock itself has so much physical presence, certainly compared to N which I worked in before. I had an N gauge layout of almost exactly this size before, which in theory would offer much more scope for trackage and thus operation. It was called Ruthton, based on a Paul Lunn plan and although I sold it, it’s still viewable online here…http://www.carendt.com/small-layout-scrapbook/page-101-september-2010/. But this simple little track plan has proved more satisfying. A small tank loco rolling a single wagon along can be quite absorbing!

One more detailed bit today - the station sign in trial position!
