A DC and DCC Heritage Railway

:hiAfter "Time Out," so as to speak, when New Dawn has lain idle, two more years of Home Education with my youngest grandson, who is now 9yrs gives the opportunity to swing the axe on New Dawn layout and start afresh, so during the Summer/ early Autumn New Dawn will be dismantled, and rather than tear out the old boards, we'll raise new ones above to give a blank canvas in every way and we can wire between the new boards and the old New Dawn boards which is better as under New Dawn has been storage and dangling wires have been a pain.

Samson and I will work on this one. Josh who worked with me on New Dawn is now 15yrs, so I expect he will come into the frame and Jacob who is 12yrs will probably come in via the technology side.

I still have all my DC engines and about three DCC, so the new layout will be mixed and as the boys have grown up, I can think differently towards it. I have a lot of kit that I have never used on the electrics etc. When I retired early I did go overboard on buying through car boot and ebay!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

So outlay will be structural and this time will need thinking through rather than the urgency which fired New Dawn 1 and 2.

Summer Hols in between dog minding and visitors will give the space I hope to dismantle.

So hey ho ………………………… nice to be back! ………………. and good wishes to old friends ………………… regeneration is possible like Dr Who BUT I can't get younger! Ah well!

:cheers

Having returned from the school run with my eldest grandsons, Josh and Jacob, I am now sitting in the new summerhouse looking out over Mts Bay and reflecting. Two black bags have gone in the wheelie bin. A plastic box has been filled with buildings etc and the two scratch built quays left by the side.
Putting new boards over these old one will save pulling them out and give a sandwich for wiring to go in between to save scrabbling on my hands and knees underneath!
A hard builder's helmet is a necessity to escape A&E and knocking one's brains out! In summer it is hot and winter it is cold as there are no windows and the concrete tile roof attracts and holds the heat.
But the adventure has begun with the beginning of two sections of the 42ft mostly cleared.
I hope to slightly enlarge the end boards to allow a curve so a loop can be introduced.
Ah, back to my tea, the view over Newlyn harbour and relection …………..:hmm:cheers

The lack of natural light, hot and cold and everything having to go up and down a loft ladder is why I abandoned the loft after a few months and moved into a 16' x 8' shed.

Cheers

Your shed layout Campaman, looks great! Fortunately our layout is off the attic bedsit which makes that access easy. Apart from that, as you say it either needs a fan or heater in unkind weather although Newlyn winters are nor too bad. The main challenge is to remember the builder's hat to avoid trips to A&E!
As before, because of the joists there will be five dioramas………… currently undecided but the sea will enter into the frame as will town and countryside, I would expect. I now need to upload from my external memory my Model Railway files.
hey ho

Hello John and welcome.  I'm a loft dweller too and know all about hot, cold and bumped heads.  The swear box is getting full!  Looking forward to following your progress.

Thanks, Michael! I love the caravan diorama on your layout! After a few days away, I hope to get some base boards for these two sections. Cuprinoling the forty three ft fence in the garden, got in the way today, one half of one side to go! I am now aching somewhat as being a contortionist was necessity, but a glass of wine and watching RHS Tatton Show on T V is a great tonic!  :cheers

Summer Hols which for us near Lands End in Cornwall means visiting family, dog sitting, and no access to the loft layout as its next to the loft bedsit ……………………….. ah well Garden, Greenhouses and Polytunnel instead ……………………. oh and the Summerhouse overlooking the Bay ………………………….. life is just one hardship after another! :cheers Back to the layout in September! Got the wood in now to get some boards.:hmm:chicken
