There is no curse in Elvish, Entish, or the tongues of men for this treachery.

OK, not sure what the rules are for this monthly project but I saw a few posts for this tree making thingy and thought I would have a bash at it.

Never tried making a wire tree before so this could go one of two ways. here's a few pics of my progress this evening.

kind regards,

Shaun

I like the idea of the stabilising wire at the base.
Look forward to progress.

Morning all,

Well I completed one more job last night, and that was to mix up some ordinary filla, stand the tree in a tub of it and just spread it all up the trunk and into the branches.

This morning I was pleased to find the filla had set and didn't all fall off when I picked up the tree so I gave it all a coat of Humbrol dirty black…on account of my matt black aerosol choosing to clog up and me not having had my first cup of tea yet…

Hello Rector, I am sorry but I am not familiar with electrickery, this is an off-cut that some sparkys left lying around at work. It is a lot thicker than the kind you wire into a domestic plug.. that's all I know.

Thanks for the encouraging replies. Having recently bought an expensive specimen oak tree for my layout, this is an interesting experiment to see if I could make something decent from whatever I have lying around the place.

kind regards,

Shaun

Congrats on your first successful project Shaun, The Tree blends in well with your backscene which is great by the way.

I love the way you shaped the foliage to the tree branches, just maybe a bit of foliage at the base between the roots to blend it in with the grass?

Hi Derek,

Thanks I appreciate your comments. I will take your advice about the base foliage to blend the tree in. I am chuffed at how it has turned out and will certainly make some more.

I think cheap and easy sum it up and that works for me.

kind regards,

Shaun

I like your first effort, Shaun, it's well worth a place on the layout. :thumbs:thumbs

If I were to offer any advice, all I would recommend on some of your trees, is more area of branch covered with a much less dense foliage. This would replicate the diversity seen in real life, where there are some very dense trees but also probably more that have an "open" canopy.

Wooteesed :thumbs:thumbs

My first tree had the same dense foliage… subsequent efforts use the Heki flor foliage mat which can be teased out as required for a more natural effect.

Well done for having a go, a keeper for sure.

Hello Gwent Rail and Marty,:hi

Thanks for the advice, I can see exactly what you mean. I used some Jarvis hedge foliage for this tree as it was all I had lying around. But now I know I can build the wire frames I will certainly invest in better foliage material.

thanks again guys.
