Improving RTR Locomotives -

                     Its a Marathon,not a Sprint!!
The main thing,at the end of all this,is that all of us who have participated can see something for our efforts.Its not a competition,or a race,and even if it were,I'm sure you'd do well in it.
  I also hope it gives any members who might be dithering over their ability to tackle anything like this confidence to try it for themselves!(especially if us four loonies can do it!)
  Gentlemen…..you have nothing to fear,but fear itsself!!!:roll:

I decided to refurb my old princess first,

well it is the oldest and most challenging, even have to strip the paint off,, here I have pre-drilled the hand rail holes before scraping

now in soak to remove the old paint,hope it loosens by tomorrow

:hiOwen thats going to improve the old girl no end, Some new fittings and a smart new coat of paint and Princess can show off with the best of them. :thumbs

Don't soak it in Coca Cola Owen - it might disappear altogether !!!

Looks like a great candidate for a "make-over" - I'll be watching and learning in between trying to make mine smooth again ………:roll::roll::roll:

                        THREE locos,eh?? You're certainly getting into the spirit of things there….and 2 out of 3 again are LMS locos!!! Perhaps we should rename the project as "Improve an LMS loco Month".I LOVE the Princess Class as well,always been one of my personal favourites!
                         I like the way you drilled the holes through the existing handrail knobs.thats a really cool tip for keeping things level and correct.Nice one mate!

I've drilled my holes for my handrails and they'll be going on tomorrow,along with pictures being posted.

Yes, I wish I'd read your post re drilling the holes Owen before I removed my mouldings …………still, I did leave a slight mark as John suggested.

Peter,I pre-drilled holes because of my dicky eye!!
how did you know about coca-cola ? we used that to clean the brass at sea…
I soaked my loco in brake fluid does the job nicely,
like so

as removing the mouldings I used this round blade,easy to control and leaves it very claen

one piccy has gone walk about,beats me!!
will do it again later.

Re the coke - try dropping an old penny into it.  Comes up like a new minted version.  Not sure what's in it but it's an amazing cleaner. :thumbs

it has not been emmery papered  yet, but I just had to try the rails…
