probably will end up a how not to do it

As it is October its time to participate in the monthly project
I have never attempted to make a tree before and have seen some great work on here by various members tree wise so this will be my feeble attempt that will probably become the De facto how not to do it.

I have looked at Mikes one he has done as an intial guide to use so i have now got some wire differant thicknesses the biggest is the live and neutral of 2.5 houshold power cable then the earth wire from that then i pinched this reel of grden wire from the missus from her vegetable garden and the some flex striped for fine wire.
Here it is

Now the wicked plan is this

very similar to what Mike has done but what i am going to try to do is bring in the fine wire on the branches at a later stage this may or may not work i will try using the hot melt glue gun to stick things

So keep watching for a good laugh

Nice to see a start being made, Brian. I'll watch with interest what happens when you add the smaller wires exclam:

Oh, by the way, I've moved the thread to the new one I created yesterday as a sub-division of the Members Projects section. Funnily enough it's called "Members Monthly Projects":roll::roll: :lol::lol:

Those thicker copper wires are going to need some heavy tools if you wish to twist them together - especially in short lengths.
A couple of lengths are easy enough but when one gets up to five or six it becomes more tricky.
However, you probably know this (by now!) and I look forward to progress with interest.

I have done a bit more this afternoon firstly i deceded not to go mad with the twisting as i thought why have i got to twist it so much as im hot glueing it anyway so first i lighty twiled the main banches together and roughly put them into place and got glueing all held together very well.
Here`s a piccy

Next i deided to use some thin wire i had to make offshoot branches from the main stems and thining bits on the end off some of the thick branches. Again no twisting just a loop for position then the hot glue gun to hold in place .

Now i have not worried about blobs at all as all of this will be covered and built up with a modelling clay anyway so next i will chop off neccesary bits and if i think a few more bits need adding i will then i will use some sort of modelling clay to cover it

so on to the next bit now

And I think building them to some sort of scale size is one of the tricks to success - so many trees on layouts are much too small. They can be overpowering though so 65ft (260mm in OO guage???) sounds about right to me. Another one is to ensure the girth is in proportion to the height and there aren't many statistics giving these measurements.

This is an interesting way you are doing this Brian, I look forward to seeing the finished product.:thumbs
