Working on the plan for my new layoout

While watching Wales thump England in the 6 nations this afternoon, I've been making headway on AnyRail for my new layout which will fit into a space 7ft6in x 3ft 6in narrowing to 2ft 6in

I have used a plan of Alston station that appeared in the modelling press some years ago as my inspiration as I like the unusual nature of it.

My thoughts for the railway- the reason for it's being:
Serving a thriving market town which as well as a normal market, will also have a livestock market.
To have a reasonable goods yard with scope for livestock and local industry such as a timber yard.
Able to handle 4/5 coach trains and tender engine.
Have one track that can be used for coach storage.
To have a reasonable sized engine depot.

Although Alston was part of the North Eastern and then the LNER, I will be running LMS stock.

Comments and  observations from my peers would be most welcome.

Whenever I write a letter to someone, I add a footnote briefly explaining Ohm's law. It's my P.S. de resistance.

Hi Trev,

Is Alston on the end of the branch line off the Newcastle-Carlisle line at Haltwhistle ? If yes, are you going to model the river next to the station ?

Cheers, Gary.

Hi Gary,
Yes you're right about the location.
As for the river I haven't decided as yet.  I'm not trying to build a model of Alston per-say, I just liked the overall plan.

One other area of inspiration for me is the area surrounding Todmorton station, where the road drops down towards a very nice town hall, market and then leads under a viaduct.

Having now sorted the track plan, I'll now turn my thoughts to the layout of the town surrounding the station.

Forgot to mention, I model in N gauge.
The traverser will also be a removable cassette system so that once the full sequence has been run and all of the engines are facing the wrong way, I'll simply turn the whole lot around in one go and be ready for the next time I want to "play"

I had thought it was N scale, would have been a tad difficult building all that in 7'6" in OO, let alone 7mm !! Will be looking foward to your progress.

Cheers, Gary.
