Morning gents,

Firstly, an additional note: I'm only going to quickly summerise each layout idea. If anyone is interest in anything in particular, drop me a PM for more details.

First up is one I'm particularly smitten with: A Cornish Branchline in N

**This layout has been discussed on RMweb and a passing loop has been added for extra operational interest.**

So this is what we now have:


Designed primarily to see trains running through the scenery (rolling hills in this case), the simple track plan is a pleasant change from track loaded layouts. The now added passing loop will hold a Class 37 and 8-12 CDA China Clay wagons which comes out at around 4ft in length.
Stock and services to be seen are as follows:

Passeneger: Local DMU's and "Summer Saturday" HST sets (This works out at about 5'4" in N). The odd railtour or 2 will add any visual interest.
Freight: Primarily china clay related. The longest working you may see is a Class 66 with 30 CDA clay wagons in tow: a mere 6'8" in N. With 12ft of scenic area, even this long a train should get lost in the sprawling scenery. Anything else freight wise will be permanent way trains etc..

This is planned as a simple run-around facility with the addiction of a run through in the background. The blue line is the mainline, worked with a Class 483 2-car unit. This translates into ex-1938 Bakerloo Line London Underground stock. The green line is the preserved IoW Steam Railway. Class O2 or Terriers dominate here. Although the prototype runs ex-LBSCR & SECR coaching stock, some of the coaches produced by Hornby & Bachmann should suffice for modelling purposes.

The left hand end of the layout has a scenic break supplied by Smallbrook Lane, a road over bridge, and the other end is alot ot trees and hedges.


What follows now is a few variations on a scrap theme. They all follow the same idea of high level passenger services and low level freight moves. Any stock any era, any steel/scrap related region ie. Sheffield, Kent, South Wales etc..

A few workable ideas there, Sam and a good start to our collection.

The Cornish version is undergoing serious scrutiny on RMweb forums to make the most of it and I intend on using the plan for a layout in my bedroom. Keep your eyes peeled.

Some great work there with the layouts track plans you are devising.

Am i correct to assume each squre grid is 1 foot x 1 foot or is it differant?

Hmmmmmm nice!

The first Cornish plan would be ideal as Coombe Junction on the Looe / Moorswater and the second one could be St Dennis Junction on the Newquay branch.

And all that in 12 foot.  Makes you think…

Now that the detail has been added, I especially like the Cornish layout.
Version 2 is full of potential and I only wish I had the room to build it in OO gauge (as well as the time & money, of course)

Keep up the good work, Sam, I'm sure that others will eventually want to contribute their own thread in this section.

Imagine a section of 40 or 50 layout ideas, what a novel resource :!:  :!:
It may take some time, but we could end up with this sort of result.

It would be a real inspiration I reckon.

COME ON GUYS! GET THOSE PLANS IN! NO PLAN IS TOO DAFT FOR A LAYOUT, REGARDLESS OF SCALE, SIZE etc.!

That would be correct Brian. Unless stated otherwise, all grid squares are 1ft x 1ft.

Would the club or a couple of members consider it Jeff?

agree with that jeff ,things don,t happen overnight (well some things do), but layouts tend to evolve , i must admit to pinching some ideas from the lads on here,  but ideas for layouts or something that can be included in a personel layout mike c,s mucky drain is a good example , just keep throwing them in boys we can pick the bits we like. :) hope to contribute to this thread in due course. 8)

I will, in due course, because I think this is a great idea, add a couple of ideas I have Sam, but, just at the moment I'm trying to finish a scratchbuild, a diorama and then maybe get on with my layout.

Besides… my imagination isn't anywhere near as agile as yours 8)

Sorry Bob. I sized them 500 width and they keep running back upto anything above 640.. :?  :?  :?

You're using photobucket Sam so they will resize them automatically for you.

Thats the odd thing, I resize them on Photobucket to 500 width aswell. Oh lordy! I'll have a re-go.

Sam it's very good of you to post so many plans. I like what I see here.  I hope others do join in, but believe me, you don't want my track plans      
 This could build up into a marvellous resource.

For those that are interested, Myles Munsey is running a series on the Island Line on the Isle of Wight in Railway Modeller. In the June 2008 issue he covered the line around Ryde Pier Head and this months issue (July 2008), he's viewing the line from Ryde St. John to Brading, including the station at Smallbrook Junction as potrayed by me above. It's worth a look if you can get a copy to give you a better plan of the layout too.  :roll:
