Obviously for some people like Bill who builds brass etched models it could well be a usefull bit of kit.

When i saw it i had visions of people walking around exhibitions with one in their hand looking to find fault with some exhibitors presentations.

Those rivet makers are actually a PITA to use. First you have to set the punch and die to the size required (usually OO, O and G), then adjust the depth to correspond to the metal thickness, and getting the spacing correct on a long run is trying. And as for doing rivets on a curve? Plus if you try and do this on thin strips there is an attack of the curly whurlies. Trying to this with styrene sheet, while possible, takes an even greater amount of patience. For a few rivets I just use a blunt dart head and small hammer.

Where the fun starts is trying to put rivets on RTR models that should have them but don't. Mainly Trains when in business sold nice riveted brass strips for wagon strapping, I miss them. Rivet decals/transfers come in a variety of sizes, go on in a jiffy, and are not oversized. You want one of the 57xx locomotives with riveted pannier tanks?  Or a Hornby Railroad Castle with riveted footplates?

Brass model rivets are best done with a half etch, although older models expect you to rivet away for hours on end with less than obvious indentations and questionable locations.

Not enough rivets to interest a rivet counter.

There is a model railway show layout with a glass jar of rivets sat in an obvious place. Another layout when bothered by rivet counters sends round a Thomas the tank engine with strange out of scale items on the wagons..

I remember seeing a large O gauge layout of the West Coast mainline set in prewar days. When rivet counters started to pick fault and say that engine or train never ran then, the operator would send round a train hauled by an American Big Boy! That shut them up.
