Gorilla Glue

Hi all. I was reading about copper clad sleepers the other day, and according to one opinion it was better to hold the sleepers down with “ Gorilla Glue “ as they will not become unstuck with the heat of the soldering iron. Is this idea true? Because if relaying the track is required it may prove to be impossible.  Best wishes Kevin

I suspect one wouldn't relay hand made track Kevin.  It's made in situ and therefore, there would be little need to move it.

Where are you installing copper clad sleepers Kevin?

I was considering them at the module edges to hold the rails securely, but sunk some screws (easy to adjust height) and soldered the rails to them.

Kevin, soldering rail to copper clad sleepers should not un-glue them as the soldering iron is only doing the job for a second or two as long as the iron is hot enough & rail & copper are clean and the solder has some inbuilt flux.

I think it was more the reverse Kevin was worried about Sol - if even soldering doesn't unglue the sleepers, what will if you ever wanted to move the track ………………………………?

Hi Ron. Thank you for your reply. It was something that I read somewhere. But there was the incident, when Barry came to help me with the short circuit I had caused by melting the insulation on a switch that I used to control the points    Best wishes. Kevin

Hi Bill.  The copper clad sleepers are for the gaps between baseboards to strengthen the track where the baseboards are dismantled. Best wishes Kevin
