Removal of point springs

Hi all,
My Peco points are currently activated by seep motors which allow the changing of the frog polarity.
I have invested in some Cobalt slow motion point motors as I have become fed up with the unreliable contacts for the frogs and the loud thud every time the motor changes direction.

My question is this.
With the track and ballast laid, what is the best way to remove the point spring activators as recommended with the tortoise motors? If it can be done.
I have two installed and they work fine apart from the spring preventing the steady slow movement of the point changing.

You can remove the spring easily even if the track is ballasted Gary i am assuming we are talking peco points if so all you do use something like a jewelry screwdriver and bend up the 2 retaining bits of metal that are either side of the spring box you can then take the box off and remove the spring you can then put the box back if you want or leave it off.

New Peco Code 100 turnouts have them mounted from underneath and if replacing solenoid with Tortoise, etc, very hard to remove spring if the turnout is down & ballasted.

Hi Ron,

Cut the spring with fret xurons or pull it out with fine needle pliers. A bit of the spring should be visible where it inserts into the tie bar. Or cut through the spring cover from the top. You can always replace the tie bar with copper clad. Looks better.

Thank you Brian, Ron and Nigel.
I have a mixture of new and old Peco code 100 points so I will have a look later after I have done all my jobs for the day.
It looks like I can get them removed then by hook or by crook!
Cheers guys.

Problem solved thank you to you all.
A combination of your thoughts and an old scalpel blade helped, o'h and not to forget brute force!
Points now operating nice and smoothly.

Cheers guys.
