  UNIFROG EXPLAINED
For current users of the Electrofrog or Insulfrog versions of our turnouts the new Unifrog format gives modellers the best of both worlds. As supplied, the turnout is wired completely “live”, except for the frog tip and wing rails, and can be used straight out of the packet without any further modification (and so behaves like an Insulfrog). However, the modeller can choose to electrify the frog and wing rails by connecting the pre-welded wires as shown on the diagram below. To change polarity the modeller can use our PL-13 or PL-15 change-over switch/microswitch, or the SmartSwitch SmartFrog PLS-130.

Code 70 for H0n3, and some Code 83  standard H0 so far - apparently new Bullhead rail turnouts will be that way as well

Ron, is the connection that is mentioned mechanical, or does it need to be soldered?  For myself, I don't quite see the big deal since turnouts can be made into whatever you want by soldering jumpers or not.  There are soooo many people for whom soldering is taboo that I can see how some would appreciate a system that eliminates soldering.

Or, as is often the case I might be missing the point.

John, some more I found

  Right Hand Turnout
Code70 - Unifrog

The wiring of these new turnouts is a development of both the Insulfrog and Electrfrog designs. The stock-rails are wired to the centre-rails at the factory, which in turn are connected to the corresponding frog-rail. This means the turnout is completely live(except for the tip of the frog) with no extra wiring required. If the turnout is being used as a switch to isolate a section of track then it is simple job to remove the wire that joins the centre-rail and stock-rail and it will work like a current Insulfrog.

The intent is for the buyer to use PL-15 switches (and no soldering). Win-win for Peco. Presumably other methods such as frog juicers or Caboose Industries throws will work. Which means getting into the black art.

While Peco turnouts are about the best of UK style RTP, compared to Bachmann and Hornby, (I don't count the likes of Tillig here because they are European style) I always found their accessories to be overpriced and shoddy.  This opinion is based on my experience from quite a long time ago.

Yes, I suppose I would need to have in my hands to see what Peco are on about.

The ability to wield the hot stick opens up a whole world of possibilities for the modeller.

No Code 100 yet? Then it's unfinished product as far as I'm concerned.

Hi Brendan,

Buy code 100 while you can, IMO it's going to be phased out quite soon.

As far as I can tell its just combining the insulfrog and electrofrog into one products so that the end user can decide which version they want.

Saves Peco from producing two different products with associated packaging costs, stock quantities and other logisitcal costs.

Cheers

bumped so others new to the forum are aware of them

Use our search engine for Unifrog and there are other threads as well.
