Slaters Bogie B Van kit in OO

Hi All.    Being a Southerner, Hooray, I am interested in having a Bogie B
Passenger Van, but, I cannot find a RTR model online or in the Mags .      I have seen the Slaters Plastikard kit and I am at a loss.
I am not criticising their pricing policy, but, why is their kit a lot dearer than other kits of the same model?    all the best. Kevin

How about the Hornby BG, just a few on Ebay

http://www.ebay.co.uk/sch/i.html?_odkw=hornby+van+B&_osacat=122601&_from=R40&_trksid=p2045573.m570.l1313.TR0.TRC0.H0.Xhornby+luggage++van+.TRS0&_nkw=hornby+luggage++van+&_sacat=122601

Think Ratio do a kit as well. In N gauge I've done a cut and shut on a pair of 4 wheel PLV kit bodies on a bogie chassis, should be something simillar suitable for hacking in 00.

Needed some vents removing and others adding; if you want the gangwayed version cut corridor connections off an old coach (Ebay spares and repairs) same source for 50' bogie chassis

Hi Mike.  Thank you. Very interesting, I have bought some coaches off
EBay before, lossed others by underbidding at the last minute?
It would be worth the experiment, Although I haven't done Cut and Shut before, bearing in mind the price difference. all the best  Kevin

That cut-and-shut van looks very interesting.

The Hornby Bogie B is a very nice model but does not seem to be in stock at the major retailers at this time. I haven't checked availability of the Ratio kit: that can be made into a good model too, but, in my opinion is a little overpriced and unnecessarily complicated.

The Hornby, ex-Triang "utility van" is still a nice looking model but not entirely accurate and very long in the tooth - the original moulds date from around 1956/57. It was a hybrid of a couple of different diagrams and matched neither of them properly. It is, perhaps, better for capturing the character of the things but not good for any purists out there.

Hi Jeff. Thank you, you are correct, the van seems to be out of stock.
I did see that for "N Gauge" modellers, Bachmann do a fine model, but when I phoned them to ask about doing a double O version, I got a very short answer, No it has already been done by our competition.
I have seen pre owned models with bits missing, but, that is no good at all
I will have to keep looking at kits.  all the best. Kevin

As per my reply to your PM, I don't know .of any major flaws in the Hornby model of the Bogie B. I took a few photos of my green one, with a start made on weathering it, plus an ancient blue "utility" van of the type first released by Triang back in the 1950s. The much, much cruder underframe and glazing are evident, but it is still a good candidate for some detailing (I have a couple in the process of being upgraded with Roxey detailing kits, including reprofiling the roofs).

I couldn't find where I have stored my ratio kit-built Bogie B - being rather delicate, it doesn't get mixed in with the regular stock drawers.

One legitimate criticism of these first release green versions was that the 'GUARD' lettering was too big. That's easily fixed if you are so inclined, although I think Hornby may have fixed this themselves for later releases

Hi Jeff.  Thank you, my van which I'm still awaiting is R 178 and I read that it is about 24 years old. The Blue van in the photo is that a later model or a different Region?? Once I get organised, after Harvest Time,
I will have to decide the best way to develop my railway, I have so many ideas:???: I don't know the best route to go.  all the best. Kevin
