Ready made rotating electrical connection

After reading about other methods of making connections to turntable deck track utilising tubes and insulating bushes etc or wipers connecting to track as it aligned, I utilised a standard jack plug as used for electric guitars.The standard socket connections are rather too hard as they are designed to both connect to the plug and prevent it coming out during playing so a similar arrangement using a softer spring material similar to loco wheel wipers was made.

The polarity was changed with a manually operated DPDT switch, its position was always set to point towards the same end of turntable track.

As the turntable was used in the storage sidings a letter X was sufficient to mark it but the controls cabinet of the model or some other feature could be used as an indicator when the turntable is on the viewed part of the layout.
The turntable had a servo operated sprung detent which dropped into grooves cut into adjustable plates set around a plastic disc for track alignment, a series of micro switches and a rotary selection switch determined which of the 6- roads was set up.

In use it was found that because the turntable was direct drive through a gearbox it was too positive and tended to overrun slightly when the detent engaged and a belt or friction drive would have been better.
