Savin' pennies.........

Herewith some pictures of my DooferVac attachment.  As I am brassed off with sifting through the dust-bag of SWMBO's vacuum cleaner for clear rail joiners and small screws that I failed to see at the last moment I decided to have a go at this, especially as I'm soon to try some ballasting.

Self explanatory, save to say that the 'filter' is the inside layer of a disposable face mask and the whole is fastened together with 2-part epoxy adhesive.

The only modification needed was to cut and glue on a deflector so that stuff didn't impinge straight onto the filter medium and block it up. In use, ballast doesn't cause any problem, but sawdust and fluff is best emptied out before the ex-black pepper-corn pot is more than half full.

I hope this inspires someone else to save pennies and ballast!

Doug

Hullo, Bob,

As it is primarily designed to help with the ballasting malarkey, why not call it a 'Ballasting Vacuum Attachment'?

That way it should pop up when searched by 'Vacuum' or 'Ballasting'…..

Brilliant.

OT: Some years ago I worked on a hair cutting machine which would attach to an electric drill and a vacuum cleaner.
I never overcame the problem of hair tending to wind painfully around the spindle of the cutters.
I should have turned the manufacture over to you, Doofer.

The idea is you push onto the end of your ordinary hoover nozzle

Sorry I missed this first time around. So simple, but most effective. As I'm about to hoover static grass off a recently "greened" part of the layout I'll wait until I've made something similar. Thanks.

Hi Doug,

When cleaning up on my layout or workbench I use a piece of fine cloth which I fix into place with elastic bands over the end of the vacuum cleaner.

The DooferVac ( subject to patents pending:lol: ) looks like a good alternative approach.

G'day Doug, I guess you will have to change your user name from Dooferdog to "Hooverdog…"
Fantastic adaptation for the old vacuum cleaner.

Cheers, Gary.

Hi, chaps!

Yes, the old 'stocking over the hoover nozzle' is a good dodge too, but SWMBO can no longer lift her leg that high……….

At least with the Doofervac, once there is a mix of ballast, fluff and dust in the container, holding it whilst running with the nozzle uppermost and giving it a shake or two will settle the ballast on the bottom and the fluff etc can be carefully hoovered out of the top of the container with the hoover pipe!
