Hints tips and smaller projects
3. Volt Flickering Red LED
Hi All. I have been wasting my time on YouTube again, but, although there are bright ideas to be found, those ideas lack lustre? If you search eBay and cannot find the items that you wantI saw a clever person, on YouTube who had fitted a 3 volt Flickering LED on the rear end of a brake van, bright idea?
as far as it goes (that is if the van only travels in one direction). But that can be sorted in a fiddle yard.
But try as I may? I found everything ,that is apart from the "3volt Flickering LED (it has to flicker to represent an oil lamp, not flash) flash equals modern" The list, 3 volt battery, battery holder, fibre optic cable, switch, wiring, white metal 4 mm lamp, cheap eBay brakevan, the only thing that I cannot find is the blessed 3 volt Flickering LED.
The Modeller insists the he will publish a list of outlets where the equipment was purchased, but I don't know where or when. All the best. Kevin
So by Googling Flicker light circuit
I found these

- 3mm LEDs: Perfect for 1:18 scale, 1:43 scale or O scale.

Bulb LEDs vs Chip LEDs
What's the difference between bulb and chip LEDs?
Evan Designs bulb LEDs have a metal light producing diode encased in a rounded silicone lens. This lens has a focusing “spotlight” effect. The top of the bulb can be sanded to widen light spread.
Evan Designs Chip LEDs are flat and surface mount. They have a wide less focused light spread and no “bulb” shape.
Warm White vs Cool White: Which one is right for me?
- Warm White: Warm White LEDs match the warm glow of incandescent lights and are perfect for lighting rooms, car headlights, or anywhere you want a more classic warm light glow.
- Cool White: Cool White LEDs have the cool glow of fluorescent lights. This slightly bluish light is perfect for shop or warehouse lights as well as newer car headlights.
Powering 3 Volt LEDs
These are 3 volt LEDs. They come pre-wired to 8 inches of insulated wire and the correct 3 volt resistors if needed. Note that not every color LED needs a resistor to operate at 3 volts, such as white and blue LEDs.
