Being relatively new to DCC, aged and simple minded, I needed some kind of system to help me remember which button to press to activate the required action/sound of the engine that I am running at any given time.

My good friend and model railway expert, Wilf, told me he used a card system that he clipped onto his back board, so I set about making my own version, which of course involved magnets

First off I wrote out the main functions that I use on a blank playing card.

Next I added a couple of magnets to the rear of the card and used these to locate the receiving magnets into the correct position on the board edge.

Then it is simple to just hang the cards. I can place a second card over the first or just replace it has 1 change engines.
A metal strip or such can be used instead of the receiving magnets. Also receiving magnets/metal strip can be painted.

Oh, Dr Beeching what have you done?
There once were lots of trains to catch, but soon there will be none.
I'll have to buy a bike, 'cos I can't afford a car.
Oh, Dr Beeching what a naughty man you are!

That looks like an excellent idea.  Till now, for the few sound fitted locos in my collection, I've just had a ring folder and I've slipped the A4 sized manufacturers' sheets with the commands inside transparent wallets.

I might try your system somewhere on the controller tray when I start on the baseboard for my new layout.

Thanks for sharing  :)
