Open House Weekend. Severn Valley Railway.

I enjoyed a fantastic day on and around the SVR yesterday, it was made all the better for the company.  Despite a down pour of biblical proportions, I had headed to Kidderminster station at 09:10 and Graham returned to is abode at 20:17. eleven hours that seemed like two. Testament to a great day!

There were some wonderful model lay outs to look at, the signal box at Kidderminster was open to the public and we travelled on a train pulled my an 1874 build steam engine, Bellerophon. She really surprised us with her spritely performance and wonderful sound.

I got myself scanned by Modelu who where at Highley Engine House so I can now (in model form) stand in the cab of my O gauge 57xx. Graham was his usual mine of information, generous self (he seemed to constantly be donation to the railways appeals) and the banter was its usual amusing self

One of the model railway exhibition sites was in the Diesel depot, OMG how big is a Western???!? I had never stood in front of one at track lever before, what a monster! Beautiful with it though.   I could go on but do not want to write several pages.

If you have chance today I thoroughly recommend going along and if you miss it this year, make sure you don't next. It is fantastic!!!  John

Oh, Dr Beeching what have you done?
There once were lots of trains to catch, but soon there will be none.
I'll have to buy a bike, 'cos I can't afford a car.
Oh, Dr Beeching what a naughty man you are!
