Thirlmere Festival Of Steam

This morning I headed south to the small rural town of Burradoo, some 98km (60 miles) from home (Sydney) to photograph 6029, an AD60 Class Beyer Garrett, the only Garrett in steam in New South Wales. I met a chap that drove 1200km (745 miles) down from Queensland, to photograph/film 6029. That's some dedication to historic rail transport. :shock:



Above & below. 6029 on the viaduct 1km south of Burradoo Station.





Above. Power and beauty in all its glory. 6029 rolling off the viaduct. The milage sign shows 140km from Sydney.



Above and below. Heading towards Burradoo, with plenty of enthusiasts from Goulburn on board.



This pic below was taken about 5km (3 miles) south of Picton. Not too much power is needed on this stretch of line as it gradually rolls down hill into Picton.



Below. 6029 arrives at Picton. Sorry, no close up as the station was packed like sardines. ;-)



Below. Former New South Wales Government Railways 42203 (422 Class), now HL203, owned by the Canberrra branch of the AHRS, runs the train in towards Thirlmere. Behind this engine is an ex-NSWGR 44 Class (4403), with the Garrett banking up from behind.

Above. On arrival at Thirlmere (Trainworks). She was taken straight into the museum siding so that the passengers could alight.



A little servicing being undertaken on arrival at Trainworks. (the building in the background is part of the museum and is probably the most modern building in Thirlmere !




Above. 6029 stands in the Trainworks siding with maroon 3265 in the background. The Garrett is a major draw card.

Well, ther you go. I'll post up more photo from toady at a later date. Tomorrow I will be taking the family to Thirlmere so that we can ride behing this beautiful loco. Can't wait…

Whilst waiting for the Garrett at Burradoo viaduct, there were a couple of inter-loppers…



Above. A 5 coach XPT heading south to Melbourne.   Below. A three car 'Explorer' rail motor (DMU) returning from Canberra.

Above. Closing up. Volunteer on the right gives hand signals to the driver as he slowly brings 3237 to the rear of her train.

Below. The all important coupling up. No knuckle coupling here. Although the coach does have a knuckle, the loco does not. Three link and steam pipes are connected.

That loco of yours Gary, No.6029, shares its number with Royalty. It is also GWR King Class 'King Edward VIII'. Nice pics though. Keep them coming.

As an avid Garrett loco fan, your pics. are great.

I grew up in Natal, South Africa, where Garretts saw lots of use, and they are big, especially on 3' 6" gauge.
