Abercynon engine shed is a remarkable survivor given that so much of the built infrastructure of the Valleys lines has been swept away. Abercynon was one of the first of the sheds built under the Loan Guarantee Act and replaced an earlier Taff Vale shed which stood on the same site. In 1933 it also received the engine allocation from the shed at Coke Ovens. It is 150 feet by 30 feet and the offices down the side are 15 feet wide. Apart from the loss of some of the original roof ventilators it doesn't appear to have been much altered compared with photos taken when it was a working shed. Sadly all of the ancillary structures and coaling stage have long since been removed.
