Has anyone seen anything thing from John Dew or Petermac? Until recently they were pretty prolific, but seem to have vanished. I hope they're both OK.

Cheers Pete.

Been wondering the same thing Pete, there seems to be only a few of us posting after all the hard work that was done moving the forum onto new software  :'(

I'm a bit concerned as well, sometimes I seem to be the only one on here but then I never sign out. It's a shame as I spent days emailing every member.

I would like to post but find it counter intuitive, if you want members to post we need a link / button that's says: "members post here" do I push " new topic" or "thread"? As a webmaster myself I don't understand what these terms actually mean in UK English.

I'm another one that never logs off and also wonder if we've actually lost some members: I hope not.

I wonder if the mod's that have their email addresses could contact them to let them know they're missed?

I was thinking that if members were to nominate people that were missing, an email could be sent to them rather than going through the whole lot.

Cheers Pete.

I did some looking into the login stats not long ago - in general the forum lost a number of users over 2022 - i suspect the degrading software and other more active forums may have pulled some people away.

Following Alan's emails we saw a small number of users come back and check in, some have stayed around and continue to check back.

In general content drives engagement, the more the people who are here post the more likelihood others and new members will come and stay.

Obviously there are some who may not like the new layout or find it difficult to work with compared to the old forum/other forums although i feel like for the most part this new forum is largely on par with what else is out there.

As always if there's things that you guys would like or think may help engagement call it out - I'm happy to look and see if technically it can be done and then pass it onto the mods for a call on whether it should be included.

Ultimately a forum lives and dies on it's content, if we've got regular updates on stuff people are interested in they'll come back and hopefully feel encouraged to contribute.

I should have added as well that it's been cracking weather these past weeks (well at least where I am) and i suspect others, like me, have been busy on outdoors projects and family events etc, so there's likely a natural downturn as well.

Hi Chaps,

I haven't popped in here for a week or so, as summer here is too hot and far too busy with our holiday guests for railway modelling, although I sometimes find a little time at the work bench to continue a small Metro build, which has just got first primer and paint on the cab interior.

Like has been mentioned above, summer will keep many away with other activities, so enjoy the summer everyone and we can get back to our railways later in the year.

Oh and John Dew is alive and well and looking forward to his Accurascale Siphons, winging their way to Vancouver.

Best,

Bill

At 6'4'', Bill is a tall chap, then again, when horizontal he is rather long and people often used to trip over him! . . . and so a nickname was born :)

Good to hear from you Bill, guessed the summer months were keeping many members busy and not able to do much in the way of modelling.

Oh dear - I hadnt realised I had been posted as missing - my apologies.  I do try to check in fairly regularly but I am afraid I have done very little modelling this year hence the lack of updates, . The garden is taking up most of my time but hopefully it will not be too long before I shake the dust off the camera and take some new shots of Granby.

Best wishes from Vancouver

I am pleased to see members are slowly posting again. I am still waiting for the latest news from Newton Broadway, though.

Hi, for the last four years i have been unable to access my layout due to having to move to Sheltered accommodation. I had to totaly dismantle the layout and so most of it has been stored in what seems to be hundreds of boxes. I have now started to sort through them and have been quite suprised by what i have found. Seeing as how i have a lot less space i think i may need to have a good clearout. For instance i have about six large boxes of road vehicles, a lot of which i will probably never use. Anyway i am fighting my way through it and HOPE??????? to start rebuilding after the coming holidays. So there we are, i am still alive but have been inactive for a little while

Not sure how I missed this thread - maybe I just wasn't looking.

I never log out so no idea why I wasn't showing up.  Anyway, I'm still alive and kicking and have posted several times since this thread was started.  However, I do admit to not being as active as I used to be - summer is always a bad time for my modelling but now winter is here, maybe things will change a bit.
