I'm thinking of getting a mini DV camera to replace the Branor cam truck. I've only started looking today and came across this one:

Is this price too good to be true?… probably, so I'm open to suggestions.

The price is right for the camera. I have one. It is fine as long as it doesn't have to focus on objects less than 50 cm away. I have done this video from Wombat Creek: https://www.flickr.com/photos/ellef/51277153082/in/album-72157681672199253/

When I saw a demo of something similar, I picked up one on line from a reputable site, but it turned out to be rubbish in quality of picture, shortest focus point, width of field (biggest problem) and resolution (only SD not the promised HD). There appear to be factories turning out cheap clones of this cube design by the million so caveat emptor as saying goes. I got full refund because it was nothing as described, it went in the bin.

Great minds think alike.
I have been looking at the same camera in the last couple of days. Unfortunately it will not work with Windows 10; it seems from the spec's that Vista is the latest Windows version it is compatible.
I'm not sure about Apple stuff.

I have a "keyring" camera which, for the price, does a remarkable job but have looked at these cubes online. I suppose one gets what one pays for - even from China ……

As Peter and Colin said, you get what you pay for and I'm not stumping up a couple of hundred dollars!

I suspect the instructions were acquired by someone who just took them unseen. Vista was Flintstones era in more ways than one!

FWIW, the one thing mine did do was work with latest Windows10 update. I could download movies and view I'd recorded, in fact I needed to to get my refund. The Merchant required me to post a recorded video on Youtube for them to assess what I said it couldn't do. One look and I had my credit back in millisecs.

Ha ha. I remember being at a relatives place in England on one of our trips. I put some photo's on their Vista computer and phtt, they were gone. Wiped from the card!
On the way from Digitrains is a Zimo MXTAPS. I've also ordered a used, refurbished windows laptop with win 10 on it (seller has a 100% rating on ebay and it was only $140.00 including postage) so I'll be able to load sound a lot quicker than through the rails. I'll now have to buy an anti virus, anti malware app I suppose, but hey ho, that's windows. I never thought I'd be using it again, but the app from Zimo doesn't work with a mac. I did look into the idea of putting win 10 on a partition on my macbook, but it only has 4GB of ram. The imac has plenty but that would be a pain.
Anyway, I'll keep a lookout for a camera.

Likewise my opinion and I agree 100% with Matt. A relative with years of various IT experience sent me down that track for same reasons explained above.TBH Peter I wouldn't bother buying Antivirus software or Malware. I have used windows defender and the free version of Malwarebytes for years and had no problems. My impression of using paid for versions are that they slow down your machine and seam to almost CREATE work just to justify you paying for them.
Just MY opinion though. :hmm

At 6'4'', Bill is a tall chap, then again, when horizontal he is rather long and people often used to trip over him! . . . and so a nickname was born :)

I own a proper cube camera, it has a magnet on the bottom so is great for videoing track running by dismantling an old wagon and using the metal weight (epoxied into place to stop it moving). Mine is not remotely controlled but works a treat.
The magnet is so good, I have videoed my motorcycle riding by attaching it to the headlight with no problems.
Pay a little extra to get the best results. I think mine cost about £80 3 or 4 years ago.

I've seen the better ones but baulked at the price. I'll live without one.
